Chapter 461
Gush!
Warm blood sprayed across Gideon’s face.
His eyes were squeezed shut, his hand shaking violently around the knife. His lips were pressed tight, He did
say a word.
From above, Hayley and the others watched and couldn’t help but reassess him.
Then, a voice drifted up from below.
“Hey. Who are you people?”
The one speaking was Penelope, the girl who had just shoved Nora out to feed the zombie.
She had a sweet-looking face and stood barely five feet four, dressed in a spotless designer dress from before apocalypse. Over it, she wore a leather jacket and knee-high boots. The materials covering her looked expensi
Her gaze landed on Hayley, but it didn’t really stop there.
It slid around her, as if searching for who among them was the one who called the shots.
Hayley caught the look and let out a quiet scoff. She shot Liam a glance, then turned and started walking back.
“And who are you?” Liam asked.
The moment Liam spoke, Penelope’s bright eyes lit up. She immediately decided he had to be the leader. Her to turned eager as she stared at his face.
“My dad’s Lionel Motley. He manages Level One at Ark One. I’m Penelope. Who are you? Why haven’t I seen you before?”
Liam didn’t answer her question. “How many managers does Ark One have? One per level? And who lives where?
“We’ve got five managers total, one per level,” Penelope rattled off. “Levels One and Two are for regular people. Level Three is for elites. Levels Four and Five are for base management and the big shots.”
After saying all that in one breath, impatience finally crept onto her face.
“So who are you, exactly?”
Liam straightened. “Liam Caldwell from Base K1.”
Hayley followed him down the spiral staircase from the upper level.
She had already checked things out up there.
There was a direct lift shaft leading upward, but it had been sealed off. There was no way to access the top from

As the group came down, they ran straight into Gideon, the one who had killed his sister
Gideon glanced at them impassively, then turned back toward his companions His eyes settled on Penelope. The naked, chilling, killing intent in his gaze made her skin crawl

Gideon clenched his fists and stepped toward her, finally losing control. Just then, Stephen Dixon, the man who had spoken to Hayley earlier, rushed out and blocked him.
“Gideon, her dad’s a manager,” Stephen said urgently. “If you kill her, he won’t let you get away with it.”
He gripped Gideon tightly.
