The Endgame Chronicles (by Hugh White) novel Chapter 463

Chapter 463

The zombies howled and snarled, their arms flailing as they sprinted and slammed forward.

Bang!

Bang!

Bang!

One zombie after another crashed into the sealed door.

The door held.

On the other side, Lionel, who had barely escaped, bent over, gasping for air.

At that moment, a hand reached toward him. “Give it to me.”

From beyond the screen, Hayley and the others heard the voice. The next second, an elderly man in a white lab coat appeared on their display.

“I’m Professor Stone, the manager of Level Four at Ark One,” a grave, aged voice said.

Hayley saw a man in his sixties, his hair and beard completely white. He looked old, but his posture was straigh and his energy sharp. His eyes were alert and bright, easily matching someone in their twenties.

“You’re from Base K1?” he demanded, staring straight at the group on screen.

“I’m Liam Caldwell,” Liam replied.

At that, Constant Stone’s expression softened slightly. “I knew your grandfather.”

“Lieutenant Caldwell, we’ll need your help,” he continued. “Help us fully seal off the underground Level Three. We’ll pay every cent we promised.”

Hayley frowned. “Level Three? I thought only two levels were affected.”

“Just now, Level Three fell as well,” Constant said grimly.

Hayley, lacking any sense of propriety, laughed out loud.

“And who are you?” Constant snapped, clearly irritated by her shameless, almost gleeful tone.

“Um, she’s my sister,” Liam said.

“Since when did your grandfather have a granddaughter?”

“A daughter,” Liam corrected flatly. “No time to explain. She’s family.”

Constant’s tone finally eased, just a little. “Then hurry over here.”

“Hold on,” Hayley cut in. “We haven’t settled the price.’

Constant froze, puzzled.

“Sealing Level Two is one price. Level Three is another.” Hayley smiled warmly. “Double the price based on difficulty. Two hundred thousand crystal cores, plus two hundred thousand tons of food.”

Constant stared at the screen, stunned. “You can’t jack up the price like that!”

“I’m already being generous by only doubling it,” Hayley replied calmly. “If that’s too much, we’ll stick to the original deal. We clear two levels, you pay the old price. Level Three is your problem.”

Constant was completely at a loss for words.

“Decide fast,” Hayley added. “If you wait any longer and Level Four falls, that’s another price altogether. Of course, you can also wait for the other Ark bases to save you. If you’ve got money to burn, be my guest.”

Constant fell silent, his face dark. Grinding his teeth, he finally glared at the girl on screen. “Fine. Two hundred thousand it is. Start immediately.”

“Deal,” Hayley said without hesitation.
