The Endgame Chronicles (by Hugh White) novel Chapter 467

Chapter 467

In front of Hayley was a mass of zombies packed together like sardines in a can.

Only a glass door stood between them.

The door was a sliding glass panel. The low-intelligence zombies had no idea how to open it, just like the on trapped on a train in a zombie outbreak movie.

They pressed against the transparent door, mouths wide open, pounding on it as they snarled.

More zombies crowded in from behind, shoving forward nonstop. The one at the very front was an extremely skinny female zombie, her entire body flattened against the glass. Her skeletal frame clung to it like a specim on display.

A long, horrifying wound ran from her chest all the way down to her lower abdomen.

The glass door was smeared with blood. A torn piece of liver and strands of intestine were pressed visibly agai it, dripping red.

She looked like a living anatomical exhibit.

Crack!

The sound of bone snapping rang out.

Crushed by the zombie tide behind her, her bones warped under the pressure. With a sharp pop, a row of ribs burst through her flesh.

Pale bone fragments, still clinging with shredded meat, jammed against the glass. They scraped against it with a sickening squeal.

Behind this wall of zombies was the western gate. The path ahead was completely blocked.

They could either take a long detour around the outer ring or head straight toward the center of the grid. The central route was shorter, but far more dangerous.

“I’ve got a way.”

A voice rang up from behind Hayley.

She and the others turned.

A young man with his chest smeared in blood stepped forward.

Hayley recognized him. Gideon, the one who had killed his sister at the very beginning

“All the rooms on this level are connected,” Gideon said seriously. “You’ve got high level access codes. We can cut through the rooms instead ”

Five minutes later, Hayley stepped into one of the rooms.

The rooms on this level were all four person units. They had white walls and were barely 200 square feet. Inside were two sets of bunk beds, two lockers, and a single table. After that, there was barely enough space left to walk.

There was no private kitchen or bathroom. Those were shared facilities.

Each room had a door at the front and another at the back, connecting directly to the next room. If they went

The door slid open.

The moment it did, a man with his back to them appeared, wandering aimlessly inside the room. Hearing the sound, he turned around, revealing a face smeared with blood.

“Raarh!”

He lunged straight at them, jaws wide open.

Slash!

A tri-edged spike shot straight through the center of his skull, carrying a crystal core with it and pinning the body to the next door.
