The Endgame Chronicles (by Hugh White) novel Chapter 470

Chapter 470

Liam’s voice sounded behind Hayley.

“We can move to the next level.”

Hearing that, Hayley finally stopped observing the area. She turned and led everyone down the stairs.

There were zombies in the stairwell, too.

Fortunately, each level had sealed doors. After clearing out the zombies on the next level down, they reached underground Level Two.

There were even more zombies on Level Two.

The layout was the same grid-like design. Corridors stretched in every direction, and the white hallways were littered with blood and wandering zombies.

With their experience from Level One, they went straight through the rooms this time.

They were currently on the west side and needed to reach the north. That meant passing through about ten roor

Liam led the team into the first room without trouble.

But the moment they ran toward it, the entire corridor erupted. Zombies howled and chased after them.

This time, luck ran out.

Hayley’s group made it through without a scratch, but two people following behind were too slow and got knocked down.

The moment they fell, it was like sinking into quicksand. Zombies flooded in from all directions and swallowed

them whole.

“Help me!”

One of them clawed at the doorframe, fighting with everything he had to survive, dragging himself forward.

Stephen and the others recoiled in terror, stumbling backward.

In that split second, Gideon lunged forward and slammed the door shut. As he closed it, rows of zombie hands shoved through the gap. Sharp claws scraped against the metal door, producing a skin-crawling sound.

Then, there was a flash of steel.

Shing!

Hayley slashed cleanly, severing every zombie hand gripping the door.

Clang!

Only then did Gideon manage to seal it completely.

“Gideon, are you okay?” Shana rushed to his side.

“I’m fine,” he said, breathing hard.

Two people in their group were dead.

Fear spread instantly. Death wasn’t abstract anymore.

When Hayley said she wouldn’t protect them, she meant it. If you couldn’t survive on your own, no one was coming to save you.

Hayley’s group kept moving forward.

At that moment, someone spoke up. “I don’t want to go anymore. I just want to stay here.”

After witnessing teammates die right in front of them, some felt there was no point in continuing. Going forwar meant almost certain death. Staying here felt safer.

However, his words didn’t draw even a glance from the people ahead.

Hayley didn’t bother trying to persuade them. These people had never been part of her plan.

She wouldn’t stop them if they wanted to follow and live. But if they wanted to die and expected her to talk them out of it, that was their problem.

What they chose had nothing to do with her.

Hayley and her group opened the next door and kept going.
