Chapter 471
The door behind them slid shut.
Hayley and the others kept moving forward.
At this point, it felt like opening blind boxes. One room after another lay ahead. No one knew what kind of surprise waited inside.
Ding!
A door opened in front of them.
The room was soaked in blood. It was on the floor, the walls, the table, and the bed. The stark white space was completely stained red, yet there wasn’t a single zombie in sight.
Hayley’s gaze shifted to the locker.
Slash!
She drew the blade from her back and hurled it straight at the cabinet. At the same instant the blade flew, the locker door was shoved open from the inside.
A zombie covered head to toe in blood lunged out.
It looked like it had clawed itself apart. Bloody scratch marks ran from its head down its body as it threw its gore slick mouth wide and charged.
Shing!
Hayley’s blade landed perfectly inside its open mouth. The poor thing didn’t even finish its first attack before it was done.
Everyone instinctively looked at Hayley.
“Let’s go. It’s clear,” she said.
With that, everyone relaxed and moved forward.
If Hayley said it was clear, it was clear. She was the one who always had their backs.
They continued on and opened the next door.
The third room held two zombies.
The fourth had five
The fifth was emply
The sixth had three.
When they opened the seventh room, they found two people

As the door opened, a man and a woman were tangled together on the bed.
Eyes met
Everyone froze.
“Ah!”
The woman shrieked and grabbed the blanket to cover herself.
The man on the bed, furious at the sudden crowd, yanked the blanket around his waist and shouted, “Who the are you? I’m Mason Robbins, the Level Two manager! Who gave you permission to open this door? Who let you here? Get out, all of you!”
Hayley looked at him like he had lost his mind. “Are you seriously that out of it? Your base is getting overrun by zombies.”
“What?” Mason stared at her, completely stunned.
He genuinely had no idea what was happening.
The night before, everyone in Ark One had gone out to celebrate.
Mason hadn’t gone. Instead, he had snuck off to meet someone in private. He even warned his subordinates not disturb him.
And sure enough, no one had.
They ate, slept, and stayed in the room the entire time. So when the door suddenly opened while they were getti busy, of course, Mason was confused.
“You can keep going,” Hayley said flatly, completely ignoring the clueless manager. She led her people toward tl
next room.
Mason stood there, stunned.
How was he supposed to keep going like this?
