Chapter 474
Hayley’s team had successfully sealed Level Two, but there was still no word on when the next step would begin.
The group was exhausted anyway, so they took the chance to rest. Everyone sat down on the floor and pulled energy drinks from their packs.
That was when an irritating voice cut in.
“Hey, give me some water, too. I’m thirsty.”
Mason walked over to Hayley’s group.
Hayley looked up at him lazily. “What did you say?”
Only then did Mason really notice her face.
Earlier, everything had been chaotic, and he hadn’t paid attention. Now that he looked closely, he realized she was stunning.
She was even more beautiful than the women on Level Five.
Her skin was full, clear, and healthy, with a natural glow. Her whole presence was sharp and clean, nothing like the pampered, overprotected women on Level Five who couldn’t maintain that kind of vitality.
With her refined features and bright eyes, it was hard to look away.
“Hey, gorgeous. My name’s Mason. I’m the Level Two manager. Nice to meet you.”
“You’ve introduced yourself three times already,” Hayley said flatly. “What, is your name that special?”
Mason paused, then smiled. “What I mean is, would you like to join Ark One? I heard you’re from some K-base. Sounds like a tiny, trash base. If you join us, I can put you straight into Level Two.”
Hayley snorted and turned to Liam. “You want to say something?”
Liam looked at her, then back at Mason. “What did you do before this, that you ended up a manager here?”
That only made Mason more smug.
“I was a councilman here. I oversaw Ark One’s construction and all resource procurement. Aside from that useless guy on Level One, none of the managers are ordinary people. The manager of Level Three is a regional military leader. Level Four is Professor Stone, Level Five…”
He stopped there and looked at Liam with open disdain.
“You don’t need to ask that much. A nobody like you wouldn’t understand.”
Liam blinked slowly, lashes lowering and lifting again. “My name’s Liam Caldwell.”
Mason froze. “L-Liam Caldwell? From the Eastern Division?”
“Yeah,” Liain said, nodding.
Mason went stiff, as if he had swallowed a fly.
Liam was the former head figure of the Eastern Division! Before the apocalypse, Mason wouldn’t even have been qualified to stand in the same room as him.
Just then, another scream rang out.
“Aaah!”
From an empty corner, Shana and Lydia screamed at the same time.
Gideon and Kevin rushed over first. Hayley and the others followed immediately.
When they arrived, the two women were clinging to each other, shaking.
“What happened?”
“Someone was there! Someone touched us!”
“Where? There’s no one here.”
“Yeah, we were all outside.”
This was the second time.
Drip. Drip.
A large puddle of water had formed in front of them.
