Chapter 535

We’re locking the doors,Arnold said.

Okay.Hayley pulled her gaze away from the screen and stepped out.

On the surveillance wall, all you could see were people running in every direction. Arnold didn’t bother tracking where they were headed.

It didn’t matter. They would die either way.

Arnold led everyone out of the control room. The door slammed shut behind them with a heavy thud.

Compared to the outbreak tearing through Level One, he had something more urgent to deal with. He needed to find out where the zombie virus had come from.

At the same time, he ordered every elevator between the floors locked down. If another outbreak hit a different level, he wasn’t letting it spread vertically.

Only people from Level Five were allowed to move downward. No one else was permitted to come up. Each floor was sealed tight.

Not long after, a report landed in front of him.

It confirmed it. Across the entire base, aside from Level One and Level Five, there were no other infections.

Where did the zombies get in?Arnold asked.

We couldn’t trace the origin on Level One,one of the managers said. But the cases on Level Five started with Piers.

Piers?Arnold frowned. Isn’t he from Level One, too?

Yes. Which means the source has to be downstairs. But no one from Level One left the base. Even the trash crew has a oneminute limit outside before they return. There haven’t been any zombies spotted within miles of our perimeter. There’s no way they came into contact with one out there.

That only made it stranger.

If it wasn’t from outside, then it had to be internal.

Or someone brought it in on purpose.

Arnold’s eyes sharpened.

Of course! That had to be it.

Ark One and Ark Two show up to pay their respects, and suddenly, there was a zombie outbreak? No one would believe that was a coincidence.

He stood up immediately and ordered both visiting bases to be brought in. He wasn’t letting this go until he figured out which snake pulled this move.

If another base thought they could sabotage his and walk away clean, they were wrong. If it came to it, they could all burn.

Arnold had the guests escorted in. He made sure their guards were sent away first.

Arnold began calmly, You’ve all traveled a long way to be here. I’m deeply sorry our base experienced such chaos during your visit.

He gestured to the table.

We had fresh food prepared. Please, eat.

The masked visitors looked at the spread in front of them.

With something this serious happening at your base, we don’t exactly have an appetite, someone from Ark Two said. Maybe we should head back and let you focus on stabilizing things.
