Chapter 540
Everyone stood there, watching Hayley carve through zombies like a machine, their mouths hanging open.
What shocked them more was that after the first move, where she used her abilities, everything else was pure blade work.
No powers. No tricks. Just raw skill and strength.
How was that even fair?
The Ark Two manager, who had just been arguing with her, looked as if his soul was about leave his body.
Earlier, when he found out Hayley came from some tiny backwater base called K1, he had already decided she would be the perfect scapegoat.
If the Ark Three outbreak needed someone to blame, he would pin it on her. What was she going to do about it? Argue?
He was confident that the rundown, no–name base of hers didn’t have the weight to push back. If Ark Two said she was responsible, then she was responsible.
One word of resistance, and they could wipe K1 off the map.
She had even mouthed off to him just now. He had already decided she wasn’t walking out of here alive.
But now, after he watched her fight, fear crawled up his spine.
She was terrifyingly strong.
His eyelid twitched uncontrollably.
Woody was staring at Hayley as well, his mouth slowly falling open.
They remembered her from the auction. Back then, she had stood at the back, holding a leash with a whole pack of dogs.
Everyone remembered the dogs. They had assumed the dogs were the dangerous part.
Now, they realized the dogs were just decorations.
Compared to her, they barely mattered.
While everyone else stared in shock, Hayley was counting.
Five hundred and thirty–one.
Five hundred and thirty–two.
Five hundred and thirty–five.
Five hundred and fifty–six.
She held the center, cutting down anything that came close. One zombie per strike.
Before long, they couldn’t refill the gap fast enough. She was killing them quicker than they could rush in. The swarm started thinning out, stragglers stumbling forward in twos and threes instead of waves.
Hayley swung her blade and frowned.
1/3
Cremises
+15 Borus
That wouldn’t do.
She had half an hour to kill 1,000 zombies.
She needed to move.
Hayley stepped onto the pile of corpses and charged out through the thinning horde.
The moment she ran, everyone behind her panicked. They scrambled after her, clinging to her back like a lifeline.
The hallway outside was chaos.
Zombies were scattered everywhere. Some were chasing survivors, while others were already eating. They moved in clusters, like ants that had found food, spread across every corner of Level Five.
The closest ones spotted Hayley.
“Raarh!”
They stretched their arms out and ran toward her.
Hayley lifted her saber.
Four more.
“Ugh… Ugh!”
