The Endgame Chronicles (by Hugh White) novel Chapter 582

Chapter 582

“I knew you were an idiot with rocks for brains. Who the hell do you think you’re threatening?”

A calm voice cut through the chaos.

Hayley stood by the window, pressure cooker in hand, watching Trina throw her tantrum.

“Go ahead and open it. If you’ve got the guts, open the door right now! And if you don’t, then you’re just a scared little coward.”

“Watch it!” Trina tightened her grip on the door handle, furious.

Despite that, she didn’t push it open.

“Come on,” Hayley said lazily. “The second that door opens, the zombies will grab you first. They’ll dig straight into your skull.”

She tilted her head.

“Actually, they’d probably be disappointed. There’s not much in there worth eating.”

The room went completely silent.

“You said you wanted to die, right? Then do it already. If you wait any longer, and my people show up, nobody’s even going to bother with you.”

Trina’s expression flickered rapidly.

Unwillingness, rage, hatred, fear, regret. Every emotion crossed her face.

Yet, despite how she felt, she still didn’t open the door.

Then a loud rumble came from outside as the harvester, approaching the building, suddenly choked. The engine sputtered, and the wheels stopped turning.

“Boss! The vehicle’s down!”

Hayley glanced out the window.

At the same time, Andrew and Sydney blurted out, “Oh, no! We stuffed cotton and wood blocks into your tires!” 2

Hayley just stared at them.

Andrew and Sydney lowered their heads immediately, guilt written all over their faces.

“Miss… We’re really sorry.”

“Yeah, well,” Hayley said flatly, “you didn’t mess me up. You messed yourselves up.”

She turned toward the window and shouted outside. “Griffin! Something’s jammed in the tires!”

“Got it.” Griffin climbed out of the vehicle and crouched beside the wheel to fix it.

The engine noise attracted several zombies. Luckily, none of them attacked him. He slid underneath the vehicle and started working.

Andrew and Sydney kept their heads down, ashamed beyond words. They had sabotaged themselves.

Now, the zombies could break in at any moment. Because they had damaged Hayley’s ride, the rescue was delayed. They had worsened their own situation.

Regret hit hard.

“Mr. Ortega… We were wrong. We never imagined things would turn out like this.”

“We were scared back then,” Sydney said, tears forming in her eyes. “We thought she was dangerous. We thought she’d hurt us.”

Marvin looked at her and sighed. “What’s done is done. Now we focus on fixing it. Whatever happens next, I won’t blame you.”

“Oh, that’s nice!” Trina snapped, anger flaring again. “Sydney screws everything up, and you’re all gentle and forgiving. But when it’s me, you yell at me, you scold me, and you never stand up for me! You’re a hypocrite. You don’t deserve to be a teacher!”

“Trina!” Marvin’s temper finally snapped.
