Chapter 586
Hayley stared at the familiar figure and said quietly, “Mr. Daniels.”
At the same time, Ryker’s voice came from inside the classroom.
“Goodbye, Mr. Ortega!”
He held Trina tightly in his arms. Zombies kept tearing into his neck, blood soaking most of his shirt and half his
face.
Through the window, his blood-covered face broke into a wide smile.
“Goodbye, everyone.”
Trina, trapped in his grip, slammed her hands against the glass in terror. She clawed desperately at the latch Ryker held shut.
It wouldn’t move.
He wouldn’t let her open it.
“Help me! Please save me!” Trina screamed, panic taking over, but only for a moment.
“Raarh!”
Ryker’s eyes turned dull gray.
He leaned forward and bit into her neck.
Within seconds, more zombies flooded through the window. They swarmed together, growling as they tore into the only remaining food in front of them.
“Ryker!”
Trina…”
Inside the vehicle, Marvin broke down completely.
He covered his face as tears poured through his fingers.
Every student meant everything to him.
Even Trina.
Even her.
Until the very last second, he still wanted to save her.
Now, they were gone,
All of them were gone.
“Mr. Ortega…”
“Mr. Ortega, please don’t cry.”
“Mr. Ortega… Sob…”
Sydney and the others gathered around him, trying to comfort him while tears streamed down their own faces.

Vroom!
Griffin slammed the accelerator. The harvester roared back to life, metal blades spinning as the machine surged.
forward.
Zombies drawn by the engine noise rushed toward them.
The vehicle crushed through the crowd, grinding past zombie students as it forced its way out. Blue-and-white school uniforms were scattered everywhere.
The harvester carved a bloody path straight through the sea of bodies and drove away.
Hayley turned to look back at the school building glowing under the setting sun.
Endless zombie students still poured out from the entrances.
If the apocalypse had never happened, this would’ve been the moment classes ended, and everyone would have rushed out for dinner.
Among the endless horde, Hayley noticed one figure that stood apart.
An elderly zombie, maybe about 80 years old, shuffled slowly to the front steps with the crowd. Its cloudy eyes stayed fixed on the departing vehicle.
Whether it was lingering humanity or just instinct responding to sound, no one could tell.
Inside that vehicle were students he had once taught.
They were leaving.
“Mr. Daniels… Goodbye,” Hayley said softly.
The engine thundered on.
Metal rattled. Sparks flashed beneath the machine as it pushed forward through the darkening world.
By the time night fully swallowed the land, Hayley returned to Haylight League’s territory.
Ahead of them stretched an entire line of zombies.
In the back seat meant for three people, six were squeezed together. Marvin and the others slowly began to recover from the grief of leaving their school behind and losing their classmates.
Then, they noticed what lay ahead.
