Chapter 596
The helicopter sped toward the steel wall.
Soon enough, Nathaniel’s group could finally see it clearly.
It really was a wall made of steel!
Stretching from north to south for hundreds of miles, it completely separated the outside zombie wasteland from the civilization inside.
Every zombie was trapped beyond the barrier. Inside the wall, not a single zombie could be seen.
That meant one thing: This structure had truly been built to defend against zombie tides.
“Was this place constructed before the apocalypse?” Constant asked, stunned.
“Impossible,” Dean replied, equally shaken. “Before the outbreak, only the three Ark bases were building fortified zones, and even those were kept secret. A wall this massive couldn’t have been hidden from the world.”
“So you’re saying…” Constant swallowed. “This wall was built within the last three years.”
That realization hit even harder.
How had anyone managed to construct something this colossal while surviving constant zombie attacks?
This was the apocalypse.
How did they organize manpower, resources, logistics, and defense all at once?
Then, they noticed movement below.
One section of the steel wall opened, and a group of fighters rushed out to engage the zombie horde at close range.
Close combat.
Back at Ark One, every zombie-clearing mission required elite squads, heavy weapons, layered defense teams, and Gifted units leading the charge.
But here…
“Why are they so short?” someone muttered.
“Those are kids!” Dean suddenly shouted. “That’s a youth combat unit!”
Constant didn’t know what to say anymore. Those children fought better than many trained soldiers back home.
“Mr. Delgado,” he said, turning toward Nathaniel. “I think we’ve been fooled.”
Base Ki wasn’t some struggling settlement. It was a massive stronghold! Maybe even stronger than their underground fortress.
Hundreds of miles of steel defenses, a fully cleared safe zone, active farmland, an operational city, battle-ready
forces…
They had been completely misled.
A super-base had been hiding in plain sight, pretending to be weak while no one noticed.

“Quiet,” Nathaniel said coldly.
He stared at the scene below without blinking.
Hayley’s face filled his thoughts.
So this was her true strength. She stood on equal footing with Ark One, maybe even beyond it.
“What do we do now, Mr. Delgado?” Dean asked after a long silence. “Are we still landing?”
At that moment, high atop the steel wall….
Hayley stood watching the live combat trials below.
Several young fighters had already caught her attention. Their battlefield instincts rivaled those of fully grown
veterans.
Just as she focused on a particularly promising kid, a sudden image flashed through her mind. She immediately looked northwest.
“What is it?” Milo asked.
“Someone’s coming.”
