Chapter 605
Living peacefully and trading gesources was obviously better than going to war.
Besides, Hayley couldn’t keep Nathaniel and his people detained forever.
Nathaniel was Ark One’s deputy director, and the other two were managers. Hoiding them any longer would look like a direct provocation, an excuse for open conflict.
So once Nathaniel paid enough, Hayley released them without hesitation.
After letting them go, though, she sped up construction across her base even more.`
Two thousand new workers had joined, and they were quickly assigned to different departments.
To Hayley’s satisfaction, the massive labor boost cut the construction time for the second defensive line in half. What was supposed to take a month finished in just two weeks.
Now, everyone had shifted full focus to building naval warships.
Watching her base grow stronger day by day eased the tension that had been sitting in Hayley’s chest.
Faster Haylight League had to grow faster.
They had to be strong enough that a single base could stand against all three Ark bases at once. That way, it would force them to think twice before making any move.
Around that time, Hayley received an invitation from Nathaniel. He invited her to Ark Two for the upcoming summit.
“Are you going?” Liam asked.
“Yeah,” Hayley said, scrolling through the long list of agenda items Nathaniel had sent.
Of course, she was going.
And she would bring plenty of people with her.
Meanwhile, in a desert settlement….
Ark Two was prepared to welcome distinguished guests the following day, The inner, middle, and outer zones were all busting with activity
In the outer zone slums..
“Stop right there!”
“Don’t run!”
Crack
A barbed whip lashed across a fleeing girl’s back
The spikes tore straight through her thin clothing, ripping open flesh instantly Bright red welts split across her skin as everyone nearby watched
Crard Crack) Crackd
The man swing again and again, voice filled with irritation
einding you to the middle one to serve tomorrow’s distinguished guests is an honor! And you still try to run? Where do you think you’re going?

The crowd around them watched with dull, empty eyes.
No one reacted. No one was surprised. Some even thought the girl deserved it.
This was simply how things worked here.
Pretty girls were sent to the middle or inner zones to entertain high-ranking managers and elite residents. Those less fortunate stayed in the outer zone, where they were still prey for local overseers and roaming thugs.
Here, there was no law or order.
Everyone obeyed the base like it was a god.
Disobedience meant one thing: being thrown outside the walls to feed the zombies.
People stared at the girl being whipped and silently wondered why she resisted at all.
Accepting fate would’ve been easier.
Someone muttered that she belonged to the so-called Women’s Unit.
The Women’s Unit.
