Chapter 625
Nathaniel tried to pull Hayley forward, but she didn’t move.
In the pitch-dark research corridor, he met Hayley’s cold, sharp eyes.
She jerked her arm free and shoved him away.
“What the hell is wrong with you?” she snapped. “What stunt are you trying to pull now?”
Nathaniel froze, speechless.
“Turn the lights back on and open the door,” Hayley continued coldly. “And don’t give me that story about how you don’t know anything.”
Nathaniel just stood there, unsure what to do.
Under her gaze, he felt like every little scheme in his head had already been exposed.
After a moment, he stopped pretending. He snapped his fingers, and the overhead lights flickered back to life.
Doors along the corridor opened, and a group of armed guards rushed out. Within seconds, the zombies were shot down one by
one.
Behind Hayley, the locked doors slid open as well.
Hayley gave Nathaniel one last icy glance. Then she turned and started walking away without a word.
Damn it. She should’ve known better.
Nathaniel had always been an idiot.
Who in the world came up with a plan like that for playing hero? Did he really think she was dumb enough not to notice?
“Hayley.”
Nathaniel’s voice rang out behind her again.
He hurried after her.
“I’m in love with you,” he said. “I mean it. I want to marry you. I don’t even care if you’re pregnant or not. I’ve been completely honest with you. You shouldn’t treat me like this.”
As he spoke, he walked toward her holding a huge bouquet of flowers.
Hayley stopped. She turned around slowly and looked at him.
Then, she let out a long sigh.
“Nathaniel,” she said calmly, “was my rejection not clear enough? Or do you just ignore everything I say?”
“I don’t care,” Nathaniel replied stubbornly. “You can reject me all you want. I still love you. I can’t change that.”
Smack!
Hayley slapped him so hard that he went flying backward.
Then she walked over, grabbed his collar, and dragged him upright.
“You don’t love me,” she said flatly.
“Even kids understand that when someone says no, you stop. You don’t get that? I’ve rejected you dozens of times Maybe a hundred. Have you ever once actually listened to what I said?

“You’re not persistent. You’re selfish. You don’t care what anyone else thinks or says. You look like you’re being devoted, but the truth is, you only care about yourself.
“All you want is your own satisfaction. Don’t dress that up and call it love.”
There were plenty of people like Nathaniel. They got rejected again and agairt but kept pushing forward.
Every rejection became an excuse in their heads.
Maybe she was just shy. Maybe she was playing hard to get
They thought that if they tried one more time, if they confessed their feelings again, she would say yes.
They ignored the countless times someone told them no, either directly or politely.
They twisted everything into something that fit their own fantasy.
At its core, it was simple: they didn’t respect the other person at all. They never saw the other side as an equal human being with their own feelings.
