Chapter 628
Hayley’s expression turned-serious.
She could feel the pressure closing in.
They had to grow and get stronger faster. Her base needed enough strength to stand against the three Ark bases as soon as possible.
When she slapped Nathaniel earlier, she had already considered the consequences. It could easily tear things apart completely.
But she had fought her way through the apocalypse this far.
If she still couldn’t protect herself, then everything she had done meant nothing.
Besides, she wasn’t weak enough to let the three Ark bases walk all over her. She still had cards left to play, including a nuclear warhead.
But Hayley had always been careful.
If she moved, she wanted absolute certainty.
If victory wasn’t guaranteed, she preferred to stay quiet and build strength.
Every piece of her base had been built with her own hands. The people living there, the farms, the factories, the defensive lines.
She didn’t want any of it destroyed.
That was why she had never taken the initiative to attack anyone.
She had always believed the day would come when her base would grow strong enough that no one would dare touch it.
Until then, the only answer was simple.
Build more, build faster.
When Hayley returned, her attention shifted fully back to development.
The second defensive line had already been completed. Workers had begun construction on a harbor and several ships.
It was April now. The weather had finally warmed.
The biggest change showed up in the fields.
ľ
The world had entered the final months of the third year since the apocalypse began, and the climate had noticeably improved.
After three years of brutal conditions, the land was recovering.
Crop yields had doubled.
Hayley gained another massive supply of resources.
Basic survival goods were no longer scarce. Now, they were overflowing. And that meant new upgrades for the base.
One major shift was converting grain production into meat. Their livestock farms had expanded almost tenfold. Eating meat and eggs every day was no longer a dream.
The improved diet had strengthened everyone’s physical health. Inside Haylight Base, no one looked starved anymore.
The people Hayley had rescued and brought here later on were stunned when they saw how people lived here.
To them, it felt like escaping hell and entering paradise.

Compared to this place, the Ark bases felt like prisons.
Another major change was the use of the evolution serum.
Hayley discovered something important.
Once a Gifted reached level 5, advancing further required higher-tier crystal cores. Lower-tier cores barely helped strong Gifted
anymore.
And outside, most zombies had only evolved to levels 1 and 2.
High-level zombies were still rare. 1
Fortunately, Hayley’s evolution serum was extremely pure.
Most of Derek’s soldiers had already reached level 4.
Liam and Milo had both advanced to level 6.
Hayley herself remained at level 9.
Even drinking several bottles of serum every day barely pushed her forward now.
Still, every Gifted in her base was far ahead of anyone else.
While Hayley continued expanding and building nonstop, news of Base K1 began spreading through the other bases.
And the reaction was shock.
“Is Base K1 really that powerful?”
Ark Two and Ark Three had just heard Lance describe Hayley’s base in detail. They were stunned.
None of them had imagined that Base K1 was actually a massive settlement capable of rivaling any of the Ark bases.
“I’ve been there myself,” Nathaniel said.
He pulled out several photos he had secretly taken, including aerial views and close-up shots.
The room went silent as the images circulated. Right under their noses, a base of that scale had grown strong enough to stand beside them as equals.
Donald thought back to Hayley telling him how weak and miserable their base was, how they were constantly harassed by zombies. Now, it sounded like a joke.
Gerard felt a surge of anger rising in his chest.
No wonder she dared bet five million tons of grain! She actually had the strength to back it up.
I’
After the shock settled, Lance finally spoke. “We can’t allow Base K1 to exist. If it does survive, it must submit completely to the
three Ark bases.”
“That’s right,” Gerard said coldly. “We can’t allow Base K1 to keep growing.”
Donald thought for a moment.
