Chapter 638
The zombies below opened their mouths as wide as they could.
Their hungry eyes stared upward, as if they were demanding food from the sky itself.
Hungry.
So damn hungry.
They had been starving for years!
Hayley’s gaze moved slowly across the horde. Then, it shifted to a nearby compound surrounded by rows of tall trees.
The building was carefully hidden by thick vegetation planted on all sides. Inside stood several long, rectangular structures. Large characters were painted across the walls.
[Fight well. Win battles.]
That was the Defense Office.
Unlike the streets outside, which were packed with zombies, the compound itself was almost empty.
“No stationed troops there,” Liam said. “Maybe a dozen guards at most.”
Hayley nodded.
That was their target.
But the compound didn’t have a place to land a helicopter.
So they had already worked out a plan.
They would land on the closest commercial building. From there, they wouldn’t need to fight their way down to the street.
Instead, they would set up a zip line somewhere around the fifth or sixth floor.
The line would carry them across the single street separating the two buildings, straight into the compound.
Hayley scanned the surrounding area carefully, memorizing every escape route and every possible hiding spot.
Only after she was completely familiar with the terrain did she glance back & Liam and nod.
“Let’s move.”
“Alright.”
At her command, Derek stepped forward and kicked open the rooftop access door.
They moved inside.
The building was a commercial office tower.
The first five floors were a shopping center. The twenty-two floors above were office spaces.

Behind a closed glass office door, a female zombie slammed itself against the barrier.
It wore a white blouse and a black skirt. There wasn’t a single visible wound on its body, and its clothes were still neat and clean. The only thing wrong with it was its face. Its gray-white was skin stretched tight against bone, with almost no flesh left. This woman must have turned into a zombre on its own, probably while working late. 2
Judging by the empty office, she had likely been the only one still there when it happened. She died alone, and no one ever knew. “Raarh! Raarh! Raarh! Raarh!”
The zombie, which was smelling live humans for the first time, pounded against the glass wildly.
It opened its mouth wide.
Its teeth had begun shrinking away from its gums.
The moment it opened its mouth, a wave of rot poured out. Maggots crawled between its teeth. They burrowed through the gums and hollowed out the decaying flesh.
The zombie’s tongue had been eaten away until it looked like a withered leaf, with holes everywhere.
“Raarh!”
“Boss,” Derek called out after checking the floor, “this floor only has one zombie.”
