The Endgame Chronicles (by Hugh White) novel Chapter 673

Chapter 673

It was already close to 6 p.m.

The sun had dipped low, slipping behind the western ridge of the canyon. From where Hayley’s group stood, everything ahead was backlit, washed in shadow.

All they could see at first was a silhouette.

The figure wore combat gear, a cap tilted crookedly on his head. As he staggered upright from the tall grass, the cap slipped off and fell to the ground.

Leonard’s lips parted. He was about to say something when Hayley clamped a hand over his mouth

The next second, the man’s head twisted at an unnatural angle, almost 90 degrees.

In the dim backlight, its gray-white zombie eyes still shone with a chilling clarity as they locked onto

them

“Raarh!”

It opened his mouth and let out a hoarse snarl. Its whole body jerked and contorted, limbs bending in ways no human body should, as it charged straight at them.

“Raarh! Raarh! Raarh!”

Leonard froze.

For the first time, he hesitated

Because he knew the man

He wasn’t from Liam’s core team, but he was still one of the soldiers from the league. They had run missions together.

Back then, he used to call out “Boss” with the rest of them, loud and bright, following Hayley without a second thought

Now, he was rushing at them like a monster.

Leonard stood at the front, unable to move as he watched his former teammate close in

Then the blade strapped to his back was suddenly pulled free.

Hayley yanked it out and stepped forward, bringing it down in a clean strike

The charging zombie’s head separated instantly. Its body kept running for a few more steps, even after the head hit the ground

It wasn’t until it reached Leonard that it finally collapsed dropping hard to its s

His eyes went red. “Boss, they…”

“Find them, alive or dead,” Hayley said.

She looked down at the fallen body and motioned for Griffin to come over and store it in his inventory

Her people were going back with her.

Every last one.

Whether they were alive or not.

A heavy weight settled in her chest.

Right then, a small voice rang out beside her.

“Don’t worry. They’re still alive.”

Hayley turned, surprised. “What did you say?”

“They’re alive,” Winona said, meeting her eyes. She stayed close to her side, her voice steady. “Eight of them. All alive.”

“Eight?”

Derek’s team only had five people, and they had already lost one.

How could there be eight?

“Yeah.” Winona looked out across the endless stretch of wild grass and pointed in a direction. “Eight They’re over there.”

Hayley’s eyes lit up.

She glanced down at Winona. The girl’s face was serious, completely certain.

Hayley didn’t ask how she knew. She scooped Winona up and took off running in the direction she had pointed earlier.

The rest followed close behind.

It didn’t take long before an abandoned estate came into view, deep in the canyon.

As they got closer, Hayley saw them.

Zombies.
