Chapter 675
“What did you just say?”
Hayley pushed the others aside and walked straight up to the woman.
“1-1 didn’t mean to.” The woman looked at Hayley with teary eyes, as if she might start crying any second
She was pretty. In a world like this, it was rare to see someone still looking so well-kept. Her long dress was clean, her complexion healthy. When she met Hayley’s gaze, she shrank back toward the wall like a fragile little flower.
Just then, a group of people came running from the far end of the estate.
“Laurel, what happened?!”
The moment Laurel Knight heard them, she hurried over, clinging to them like she had been wronged. “It was an accident. I was just trying to help. I had no idea it would go wrong.”
The group who rushed over looked at her, their eyes filled with quiet sympathy.
“What happened?”
“Who messed with you?”
“I was just helping. I didn’t know I’d make things worse,” Laurel said softly, looking pitiful.
“What were you helping with? Everyone knows you’ve got a good heart.” Even Derek spoke up, concern in
his voice
Then, Ethan cut in. “Derek, are you serious? She almost got our boss killed!”
Derek froze.
“I really didn’t mean to,” Laurel insisted, her voice trembling. “I saw everyone helping, so I thought I should do my part, too. I didn’t know it would turn out like that.”
Hayley stepped forward, grabbed Laurel by the collar, and yanked her up.
“Good intentions don’t mean a damn thing if you don’t have the ability to back them up. Do you have what it takes? No? Then why the hell are you playing saint?
“You screw things up and think saying ‘I didn’t mean to’ makes it all go away? What, you think acting cute gets you a pass? You hurt people and then hide behind that innocent act like nothing happened?
Seriously, who are you trying to fool? Give me a break.”
‘I really didn’t mean to…”Laurel broke down, tears spilling.
Before she could finish, Hayley dragged her to the window and shoved her out so her feet dangled over the edge.

Below, the zombies caught the scent of the living and snarled with excitement. Laurel looked down and went blank, then started screaming.
“Help me! Help me! Please!”
Hayley stared at her.
“So you do know what danger looks like. Guess you’re not that clueless, after all!”
Hayley slapped Laurel mercilessly.
“You know it’s dangerous, and you still jumped in and messed things up. Then you act dumb after the fact and pretend you’re innocent!”
More slaps rang out.
“Not even an apology. Who do you think is gonna keep putting up with that?”
Hayley didn’t hold back.
Slap after slap landed hard across Laurel’s face.
Hayley didn’t spare anyone.
Laurel’s mind went fuzzy under the blows and the shouting. All she could do was cry and beg
“I was wrong! I’m sorry! Please, I won’t do it again! Let me go!”
“What the hell are you doing?!”
A voice shouted from the crowd.
One of Laurel’s companions couldn’t take it anymore. He stepped forward, yelling, “Let Laurel gol Right
now!”
As he moved in, Thomas, Leonard, and Ethan all stepped in front of him, blocking his path.
“You people are just a bunch of thugs!” Felix Johnston snapped, glaring at them.
