Chapter 702

“You talking about me, you little brat?” Roxanne snapped, instantly on edge.

“Yeah, I am. I’ve never seen anyone dumber than you,” Winona shot back without blinking.

“You’ve got no manners at all. Fine, I’ll teach you some today!”

Roxanne shoved the people beside her aside and stormed toward Winona, face twisted with anger. She raised her hand, ready to slap Winona.

Before it could come down, someone caught her wrist midair.

Hayley looked at her, calm and cold. “Who are you to teach my people anything?”

“I knew it! The kid’s got no manners, just like you. You’re just a whole bunch of…”

Smack!

The slap cut her off, loud and sharp. It sent Roxanne stumbling sideways.

“Yeah,” Hayley said, lowering her hand. “Guess I don’t have much manners.”

That only made Roxanne lose it even more.

The sound drew everyone’s attention. People nearby froze, and even those farther away turned to look.

Roxanne let out a wail and clutched her face, breaking down right there.

“What’s going on?”

Kieran frowned as he walked over.

The second Roxanne saw him, her crying got louder. People who knew her crowded in.

“Roxanne, what happened?”

“Sh-she hit me!” Roxanne sobbed, turning her swollen cheek toward them and pointing straight at Hayley.

All eyes shifted to her.

“Kieran, it’s not Ms. Reid’s fault,” Laurel said quickly. “Roxanne started it. She kept insulting us and even tried to hit that little girl, who’s one of ours. Ms. Reid only stepped in when it went too far.”

“I didn’t hit her!” Roxanne cried. “I didn’t actually hit her!”

An older woman in the crowd, clearly on Roxanne’s side, cut in. “Exactly. She didn’t hit anyone. So why’d you go and slap her? The selection for the inner camp is tomorrow, and you’ve got her face all swollen now. Who’s going to take responsibility for that?”

“They’re outsiders, too. Acting like they own the place

“We’ve got to make them pay!”

“Kieran, you have to stand up for me!” Roxanne cried even louder.

Kieran barely reacted to the noise around him. He went straight to Miranda and the others, asking them to walk him through what happened.

After hearing the full story, making sure everyone nearby caught every detail, he focused on one thing

“Roxanne, were you about to hit the child?”

When she admitted it, he nodded.

“You started this. You apologize first. Then I’ll have them apologize, too, and we’re done here.”

Hearing that only made her cry harder. She stood there like the victim, sobbing so pitifully that some people couldn’t stand it.

“Kieran, she’s already been hit. Making her apologize isn’t right,” someone protested.

“Yeah, and they’re from somewhere else. They’re not even one of us. They should be the ones apologizing.”

“There’s still a difference between right and wrong,” Kieran said, looking at them. “You all heard what she did. She started it. She apologizes first.”
