As soon as Hayley spoke, everyone in the room turned to look at her.

“Come here,” she repeated.

Eric still hadn’t gotten over that slap from yesterday. The fear was still there. At her voice, he got up without arguing and walked over.

“Where does it hurt?”

“Where else? My head.

“What kind of pain?”

“Hey, that’s enough,” Jocelyn snapped, standing up. “You hit my brother yesterday, and now you’re asking him that?”

Before anyone could respond, the speaker overhead crackled.

“What are you doing?”

The door swung open. Several people in white coats walked in. Their expressions were serious as they

looked around the room.

“Why aren’t you on your beds?”

“Sir, it’s her!” Jocelyn pointed at Hayley. “She made my brother go over there!”

The man in the white coat looked at Eric, then at Hayley on the top bunk. “What are you doing?”

“He said his head hurt this morning,” Hayley replied. “I was just asking about it.”

At that, the group in white frowned.

Jocelyn cut in again. “She hit him yesterday! She slapped him multiple times. That’s why he’s hurting!”

Hayley raised a brow slightly.

The men in white relaxed a bit after hearing that. They looked at Hayley again.

“No fighting in here. Don’t let it happen again.”

“Got it,” Hayley said.

“What? That’s it?” Jocelyn blurted, clearly not satisfied. She tried to say more, but one look from them shut her up..

“Unless necessary, no one leaves their bed,” one of them said. “Back to your spots. No more trouble. Or you’ll be put in solitary.”

Everyone quickly returned to their bunks.

The door closed again.

Hayley leaned slightly over the edge of the top bunk. “Does your head still hurt?”

“It’s fine now,” Eric said.

“If it starts hurting again, tell me.”

“Save the fake concern,” Jocelyn muttered, turning her head away.

Hayley ignored her.

For a while, things stayed quiet.

Then, sometime after lunch, it hit again.

“Ah… It hurts… Damn it!”

Eric had been lying down, but he suddenly curled up and clutched his head, rolling in pain.

Hayley sat up immediately, looking down.

“It hurts! It hurts so much!”

“Eric?”
