Hayley and Winona weren’t anywhere near the camp anymore. The exit had led straight into the mountains, deep into an uninhabited stretch of forest.

Which meant one thing: the inner camp was massive.

An entire complex hidden inside the canyon, built at that scale, didn’t happen without serious power

behind it.

Still, that didn’t matter. Now that Hayley was out, she was coming back with people to take the place

down.

She had gone into the inner camp to dig into Ascendant Creed. Once she had answers, she had always planned to act. Ascendant Creed was already on her list, and anything on that list had to be dealt with.

She hadn’t found any trace of Ascendant Creed inside, only something called the Sovereign Academy.

Different name, but same thing. It was another anti-human operation. They were bringing in living people for experiments and injecting them with the zombie virus.

That entire outer camp was nothing but lab rats to them. When they ran low on subjects, they would come out and recruit more. They framed it like they were hiring staff, but in reality, it was a death

sentence.

A place like this deserved to be wiped out.

And then, there was that S-level woman who had tried to kill her.

Stopping her from digging deeper into the Sovereign Academy was one thing. Trying to take her life was

another.

No way Hayley was letting that go!

She needed people, and she needed them now. The inner camp had to be taken down.

Hayley navigated through the mountains with a compass all night. By the time dawn broke, she had finally circled past the camp and made it out.

Her phone picked up a signal.

She called Scott and the rest over immediately.

By noon, a large group of hardened fighters stormed into the canyon. Kieran and the others tried to resist, but they were quickly forced down.

“You’ve all been lied to!” Hayley explained what was going on inside. “The inner camp isn’t hiring staff. They’re taking test subjects. Anyone who goes in ends up as a lab rat, injected with the zombie virus!”

Most of them didn’t believe her, but that wasn’t her problem.

She didn’t need their agreement. She had said what needed to be said.

Scott’s people locked down the crowd and pushed straight toward the inner camp.

Kieran and the others were tense, watching as the group advanced toward the place lined with high- voltage defenses and mounted guns.

But today, the inner camp was silent.

Scott’s team used their abilities to destroy the mounted guns and force the gates open. Once inside, they realized the place had already been cleared out.

The entire underground base was empty.

Room after room, not a single person.

Hayley followed them in, retracing her steps from before. Every space she checked was deserted. Even the lab where Eric had turned had been stripped clean.

Hayley reached the testing area from the day before. The device used to test for gifts was still there.

She had Griffin take it.

An hour later, Scott’s team reported back.

“There are eight exits. The farthest one leads out of the canyon. We found a large open area outside with signs of helicopter activity.” 2
