Chapter 744

Hayley held her blade, still dripping with blood, and stared coldly at Preston.

Preston met her eyes and spoke slowly, each word deliberate.

“Everyone stays behind the cabinet. No one goes over there.”

Only after hearing that did Hayley lower her blade.

She glanced at the body on the floor, wiped the blood off her knife against it, then kicked the corpse ba toward Preston’s side before turning and walking away.

“Damn, she’s ruthless,” Preston muttered under his breath as he watched her go.

He turned and ordered someone to drag the body farther off.

The units in Clearwater Residences were huge. Even with Hayley forcing them to stay near the entryway there was still space for them to move around.

The body was dumped into a corner, and the group sat down on the floor.

After a full day of running for their lives, they were exhausted and starving.

Preston had them take out the food they had gathered.

There were ten cans total.

He kept two for himself. The other men each got one.

That left a single can for the four women to split.

And that was only because Hayley had killed one of them earlier. Otherwise, 13 people would’ve had to divide ten cans.

Jocelyn and the other three women took the small can, barely eight ounces. There wasn’t even enough for two bites each.

They split it carefully.

At that moment, one of the women, the one who had been running at the very back earlier spoke up

“You guys eat. I’m not hungry.”

She looked sick.

The rain outside had soaked her through Her clothes clung to her, her hall plastered against her scalp, dirty water still dripping down in heavy drops

She was shivering.

She curled up in the corner, hugging herself
