The Endgame Chronicles (by Hugh White) novel Chapter 771

Chapter 771

Hayley didn’t have time to study the situation.

Behind her, waves of zombies were already pouring over from the opposite rooftop, leaping across in clusters as they chased he down.

She flicked a crystal core off the ground and tossed it back to Griffin. “Hoid onto that.”

Then she tightened her grip on the knife and kept running:

The rooftops here rose and fell unevenly. Some had laundry strung out to dry, while others were cluttered with makeshift additions, glass sunrooms, or slanted tile roofs.

Hayley sprinted across them all, vaulting from one to the next without slowing.

A swarm of zombies followed close behind, drawn by her scent.

“Raarh! Raarh! Raarh!”

“Raarh!”

They lurched and staggered, heads jerking, limbs flailing as they scrambled after her across the maze of rooftops.

Gradually, they began to fall behind, unable to keep up with Hayley’s speed and constantly shifting direction.

Some misjudged their jumps and plunged off the buildings. Others got thrown off when she suddenly changed direction, wandering aimlessly across the rooftops instead of keeping her trail.

After about ten minutes of running, most of the zombies had lost her. The streets below started to thin out, too.

Hayley had finally made it out of the dense central zone. Up ahead, the view suddenly opened wide.

A massive plaza stretched out before her. Across it stood a bold sign: Fairfield North Rail Station.

“Which way now?” Griffin caught up behind Hayley, breathing hard.

The moment she saw the station, her eyes lit up.

According to the tracker, their target was in a building next to the South Bus Terminal.

And the South Bus Terminal sat right near the South Rail Station.

“Follow the tracks.”

She made the call instantly.

Cutting straight through the city would be faster, but it would also mean running straight into heavy zombie territory.

Following the railway would take longer, but it was safer.

Without hesitation, Hayley headed into the station in front of her, planning to stick to the tracks all the way south.

She scanned the area, then kicked in the glass root of a six-story self-built structure nearby and dropped inside.

Each floor of the building had been divided into cramped units.

It looked like a cheap motel, with stairways pressed tightly against the walls and narrow hallways leading to reas of rental

By the time Hayley reached the fifth floor, she spotted a door standing wide open directly across from the statss

There wasn’t much there, just a narrow bed with a pink sheet, an old wooden wardrobe with a mirror, a TV, and a crude bathroom set up on the balcony.

The place was a mess, but there were no zombies inside.

Only a shriveled corpse was reflected in the mirror, its skull smashed open.

There were no other injuries on the body. It had probably turned into a zombie on its own, then been killed not long after.

Its skin tone still looked normal, not the greenish tint.
