Hayley let out a quiet laugh. “Get some rest. Tomorrow, you should all go with Frona. You don’t need to come with me.”

“No way, no way. I’m going with you,” June said without hesitation. “No matter what, I’m sticking with you tomorrow. Zach and the others can go with Fiona.”

Spencer, who had been sitting off to the side, lifted his head slightly at that.

The next day.

When the morning fog rolled in, everyone was already inside the car. The air purifièr hummed back to life.

By now, Hayley understood. The fog came like clockwork, morning and evening. Each tirne, it lingered for about half an hour.

They stayed inside, waiting for it to clear before stepping out again.

Zach and William decided to go with Fiona, not wanting the longtime team member to feel sidelined.

June, on the other hand, was set on going with Hayley.

After a brief argument, the group split up.

To Hayley’s surprise, Spencer ended up going with her group as well.

Once the fog thinned, they carefully stepped out from the south station platform. The massive plaza outside was still completely empty, not a single zombie in sight.

“Strange… Really strange,” Zach muttered.

“Maybe someone cleared this place out before,” June said. “Wiped all the zombies.”

“Alright, stay sharp,” Zach said.

“Relax, we’re heading somewhere close. Shouldn’t be too dangerous. You guys be careful instead,” June replied.

At that, Fiona’s expression tightened again, her displeasure obvious.

The group split, heading north and south across the open plaza.

According to the tracker in Hayley’s hand, Professor K was somewhere in a mall south of the bus terminal.

“Where exactly are you going?” June asked.

“The building behind the station.”

“Then we don’t need to go through the underground mall,” June said, glancing at the sunken stairway leading below. Her gaze shifted toward the parking lot beside the bus terminal. “We’ll just cut across.”

“Works for me.”

Hayley’s eyes lingered on the entrance to the underground mall. Maybe it was the lighting, or something else, but the place tell off.

It was dark and hollow, as if something was waiting inside.

They climbed over a fence, and a handful of zombies came into view. There were about eight of them, scattered across the parking lot.

Some wandered near abandoned cars. Others shuffled aimlessly along the lanes. Several were trapped inside vehicles, slamming against the windows with dull, desperate thuds.

Chapter 2

All of them had that same look. Bulging eyes, greenish skin, heads folling as if they were drugged.

The moment they noticed movement, they rushed forward.

Before Hayley could even act, flaming arrows streaked through the air, piercing straight through their skulls.

“I told you,” June said, lowering her bow. “I’ve got you. As long as I’m here, nothing’s getting close.”

“Alright.”

A faint smile curved at Hayley’s lips as she picked up her pace, heading toward the mall building ahead.

As she got closer, the tracker in her hand began to beep.

The signal grew stronger, the dot on the screen expanding. Soon, a more precise location appeared right in front of her.

“The underground parking garage.”

Hayley stared at the entrance ahead.

She had found Professor K.

He was right here!
