The Endgame Chronicles (by Hugh White) novel Chapter 782

Chapter 782

In front of Hayley stood a glass enclosure that looked like a cage.

It covered roughly 1,000 square feet. Inside were rows of insulated boxes growing vegetables, a dog, and an elderly man in a

wheelchair.

The space was fully equipped, with ventilation, water filtration, food, and a place to sleep; even a dog for company. If it were out in the open, it would’ve been a comfortable little shelter,

But here, sitting in the middle of an underground parking garage, it felt completely out of place.

The dog had been curled up at the old man’s feet. The moment it saw people approaching, it jumped up, alert and tense, staring

straight at Hayley.

At first, the old man in the wheelchair didn’t pay much attention when he saw the humanoid figures approaching. As they got closer and he realized they were living humans, his eyes lit up instantly.

“You’re Professor K?” Hayley stopped outside the glass.

Hearing his name, the old man frowned, studying her. “You know me?”

“I’m here to take you out. Open up and come with me.”

His expression hardened instantly. “I can’t leave.”

“Cut it out. Just come out,” Hayley snapped.

The dog let out a low growl and rushed forward, baring its teeth at her.

Hayley glanced at it and was reminded of her own dog for a split second. She held back, then yelled, “Back off!”

Even through the thick glass, the force of her voice hit hard.

The dog flinched, tail tucking immediately as it whimpered and backed away.

Dogs are highly pack-oriented animals. They understand strength better than anything.

Hayley’s voice carried something primal, overwhelming, like a predator’s roar echoing through the wild.

The dog retreated behind the old man, cautious now, no longer daring to show its teeth.

“Alright,” the old man said, patting the dog gently before looking back at her. “Who sent you?”

Hayley met his gaze without hesitation. “Ascendant Creed”

“That’s impossible.” He shook his head immediately.

“They took my aunt. They told me to bring you out in exchange for her.” Hayley didn’t hide anything. She laid it all out.

The old man went quiet, thinking.

After three seconds, he shook his head again. “You’ve been lied to. Do you even know what I’m doing here?”

“What?”

“This enclosure is tied to a control system. I’m here to keep watch over the zombies. Beneath the bus terminal, in the underground mall, there are nearly ten thousand of them locked up. If I leave with you, those zombies will be released immediately. When that happens, none of us is getting out alive.”

The words hit like a hammer.

Everyone froze.

Ten thousand zombies.

June’s face went pale as she thought back to the underground mall they had almost passed through

If they had gone down there earlier, they would be dead already.

Spencer stared at Hayley, stunned.
