Chapter 783
The moment Kurt Frost’s glass enclosure opened, tens of thousands of zombies outside would be released.
If Hayley took him and left, she couldn’t ignore everyone else’s survival.
She and Griffin could make it out. The rest was another story.
These people weren’t bad. They were the first group she had met in a long time that she actually didn’t mind. She needed to make sure they lived.
At Hayley’s words, June quickly pulled out a modified shortwave communicator. “I can reach Zach.”
She had just switched it on when a frantic voice burst through the static.
“June! June, something’s wrong!”
“Zach? What happened?”
“W-We’re in the underground…”
“Raarh!”
A zombie’s snarl cut through the transmission.
Hayley and June’s expressions changed instantly.
“Zach! Zach! What’s going on? Where are you?!” June yelled.
“Don’t come! Run…”
Clatter!
The communicator seemed to hit the ground. Footsteps thundered through the signal, like a stampede rushing past.
“Raarh! Raarh! Raarh!”
“Aaaargh!”
William’s scream tore through the noise.
Then the line went dead.
“Zach! William! Zach!”
June stared at the silent device, panic flooding her face as tears spilled over.
“Don’t panic,” Hayley said, her voice steady, cutting through the chaos. “The only place nearby with that many zombies is the underground mall. Zach must’ve gone in there.”
“What do we do?”
“If you want to save them, we move now,” Hayley said, her eyes turning cold. “We release the zombies early. Everyone, with tad
She slammed her hand against the glass. “Open it. Now, old man!”
Kurt froze for a second. He still tried to gather a few things, but Hayley pounded harder against the glass, her warning unmistakable.
Left with no choice, he abandoned everything, scooping up his dog.
“Have you really thought this through?”

“Move!
As her final word fell, Kurt activated a mechanism inside the enclosure, and the glass barrier retracted. For the first time, he and his dog breathed the outside air.
Hayley had Kurt carry his dog while Griffin and Spencer pushed him along, and she led everyone in a sprint for the exit.
Just as she expected, she soon heard waves of zombie growls, one after another, getting closer and louder. The low, guttural snarls mixed with the thunder of countless footsteps made hearts race and chests tighten with fear.
The zombies were out!
“Raarh!”
The moment Hayley rushed out of the underground parking garage, she saw a swarm of zombies charging straight toward them, drawn by the scent.
They looked like they had been rotting for years, their clothes hanging in tatters, and as they ran, the stench rolled in waves.
The first three zombies were unmistakably a family.
A father, a mother, and a little girl.
The zombie father’s stomach had been torn open, its abdomen hollowed out, a mass of decaying flesh dangling loosely inside.
