But if Ruby really was being held in District Three…
Hayley stared at the paper, taking a slow breath.

If so, he would have no choice but to slip in with the extraction team that day, grab Ruby, and force her way out.
She mapped out plan after plan in her head. Then she and Griffin stayed up most of the night getting things ready.
The next morning, she entered District Two under the pretense of delivering equipment, just like she had said the day before.
The second she got inside, she activated Ghost Mode and headed straight for the parachute workshop to find Willow.
Inside, the atmosphere was tense. Everyone was locked in, completely focused on their stations, hands moving nonstop along the assembly line.
What happened yesterday had spread. Harrison had dragged their team lead out to test a parachute pack, and everyone knew it.
The entire workshop felt suffocating. No one dared slack off. Every pair of eyes stayed glued to the work in front of them.
Hayley spotted Willow on one of the lines.
She stood just behind the workers, watching quietly. Not a single person noticed her, not even the team leads doing their rounds.
Seeing how heavy the workload was, Hayley decided not to wait here.
No point wasting her Ghost Mode time.
She glanced at Willow’s name tag, memorized the dorm number printed on it, then turned and left the workshop, heading straight there.
To be fair, even though management here was ruthless, the living conditions were surprisingly decent. They all had private
rooms.
Hayley stayed inside and waited until around 10 p.m.
The place ran on two shifts. Machines never stopped; only the people did.
Willow was on the day shift, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. After a full day of work, she finally came back to her room.
The moment she stepped inside, she saw Hayley sitting there.
“Hayley!”
“Shh.” Hayley raised a finger to her lips.
Willow nodded immediately, catching on. She shut the door and hurried over.
“I asked around. There really is a restricted zone here.”
“Where?”
“District Three,” Willow said in a low voice. “District Two doesn’t have anything like that. But in District Three, there’s a whole section that’s off–limits. People say they’re holding a lot of prisoners there.”
Hayley’s eyes sharpened.
That was it! That had to be the place.
She hadn’t expected it to actually be in District Three. It looked like she would have to figure out another way in.
She frowned, thinking.

Just then, there was a knock at the door.
Hayley tensed instantly, but Willow waved it off. “It’s fine. That’s Emerson.”
Willow went to the door, crackedit open just a little, and sure enough, Emerson was standing outside. She let him in quickly.
The second Emerson saw Hayley, his eyes lit up. “Boss?
“Been a while.” Hayley gave him a nod, her gaze dropping to the District Three uniform he was wearing. “How’d you get over here?”
“District Two and Three are separated by just one wall in one spot,” Emerson said. “We don’t always get assigned to the same district, so some people moved the cameras on that wall. Makes it easier to sneak over and see family. I climbed over from there.
