The Endgame Chronicles (by Hugh White) novel Chapter 819

Chapter 819

Raarh! Raarh! Raarh!

Raarh!

The four zombies, dried out like walking corpses, burst out of the cages, arms fiailing wildly as they charged forward.

They barely even looked human anymore. Pale, stretched skin clung tight over bone, their eyes bulging unnaturally large in hollow sockets.

Raarh!

Raarh!

One skeletal zombie lunged and grabbed a fleeing researcher by the face. Its fingers, hardened like spikes, drove straight in.

The thumb punched into his temple. The index finger dug into his forehead. The middle finger pierced his left eye. The ring and pinky fingers sank deep into his cheeks.

All five fingers clenched hard. A tearing scream ripped out of the researcher as his face was peeled off in one brutal motion, blood spraying everywhere.

The smell of fresh blood sent the surrounding zombies into a frenzy. They surged forward, chasing anything still breathing.

Most of the people assigned to this underground lab were ordinary staff. Gifted individuals were rare to begin with, and even fewer got stationed down here.

The handful who did have gifts found them gone the moment they got close to Hayley.

Even the zombies were just basic ones.

Just like that, the entire place turned into a raw, primitive killing ground.

Raarh!

Zombies threw themselves at defenseless researchers.

At that moment, Wally stumbled out of a sealed chamber, dragging a zombie behind him.

His gift was controlbased. He could control both humans and lowlevel zombies, up to three at once.

Right now, he was dragging Diana by the leg. Her bones were completely shattered. Even as a zombie, her body couldn’t hold itself together.

Rage burned through him. Whoever did this to his sister, he wanted them dead!

The moment he stepped out, however, he froze at the chaos unfolding in front of him. Right then, he saw Hayley standing by the open elevator.

He charged straight at her, shouting into his earpiece.

All units, listen up! An intruder is in District Three! Lock down the upper levels! Grab her now! Security, move! Move!

Hayley tilted her head and smiled at him.

Right then, Wally realized something was wrong.

His earpiece had gone dead. There was no signal at all.

Electromagnetic interference.

Panic surged through him as he unleashed his controltype ability straight at Hayley. She countered with her pulsetype ability.

In that instafit, all of Wally’s gifts vanished. His eyes widened as tre stared at Hayley in the distance.

Zombies lunged at her, but none of them could get close. She held them off with ease.

Hayley looked at him with a faint, calm smile. Don’t worry. I’ll wait until you’re reunited with your sister before I leave.

The words hit him like a blow. His mind went blank.

Raarh!

Behind him, the zombie Diana he had been dragging suddenly twisted at an unnatural angle the moment his abilities disappeared. She snapped forward and sank her stillfunctional teeth straight into his leg.

Ahh!Wally screamed in terror.

Hayley watched as he was bitten, and a satisfied smile finally appeared on her face.

She raised her hand; a towering burst of flames roared upward, engulfing both him and his now zombified sister, reducing them to nothing.
