Chapter 870
The elevator doors slid open
Outside, a crowd had already gathered.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
A storm of bullets tore inside, round after round, ripping straight into the elevator. Every shot landed.
However, none of them expected the elevator would be packed wall–to–wall with zombies.
“Raarh!”
“Raarh!”
The zombies didn’t even flinch under the gunfire. The moment the doors opened, they caught the scent of fresh, living flesh and surged forward in a frenzy.
Down in the lower levels, Hayley kept everything under tight control. She methodically unleashed wave after wave of zombies, wiping the basement clean. Each time, her keycard beeped as she swiped access, sending another elevator load up.
Cold to the core, she didn’t stop until she had sent four full waves. Only then did she finally push Ruby into the elevator.
Inside, more half–dead zombies hung slack and twitching, insurance in case anyone outside had survived.
Ding!
The restricted zone doors opened.
What lay beyond was pure carnage.
Elevator after elevator of zombies had already overrun the entire floor. Blood was everywhere, along with zombies, people running in panic, and others being dragged down and bitten.
Hayley threw up an air shield, blasting the nearest zombies aside, and shoved Ruby forward, sprinting through the chaos.
Along the way, she spotted several transport carts loaded with Serum X.
She didn’t hesitate.
With a flick of her hand, every vial vanished into her inventory.
Then she kept moving.
Anyone who blocked her path died. Any door in her way was smashed through without slowing down.
By the time she burst out, daylight had already broken.
She had spent the entire night underground.
It was early morning now, maybe 7 a.m.
Hayley pushed Ruby forward, a swarm of zombies trailing behind her as she charged out of District Three.
Alarms shrieked across the entire island.
Ring! Ring! Ring!
The disturbance had triggered a full lockdown.
From ahead, she heard the synchronized thunder of boots rushing in. With a swift ding, the gates to District Three swung open.
A large squad of security forces poured inside, most of them Gifted.

Among them, she spotted Scott and Sawyer.
Scott saw het as well.
“Focus on the zombies!” he snapped, his brows drawn tight.
He gave her three seconds.
Seizing the moment, Hayley turned and sprinted toward the low wall she had used to get in.
She stopped just long enough to set Ruby down, only to realize Ruby had completely lost consciousness.
Hayley hoisted her over her shoulder and vaulted the wall, slipping into District Two.
Over in District Two, the atmosphere was tense. Everyone had been summoned to the main yard.
Harrison had sensed something was wrong. He gathered every single person and began checking them one by one against the roster. It didn’t take long before he found several who didn’t belong.
People from District Three who had slipped in.
Among them was Emerson.
Harrison treated every outsider who had come to visit family as a potential spy. He had them all pulled out and detained, waiting to deal with them.
Right then, the fire alarm blared. Behind him, the warehouse had gone up in flames.
