The Endgame Chronicles (by Hugh White) novel Chapter 829

Chapter 829

Hayley had been busy for days, and Griffin had followed her every step of the way

He barely got any real sleep before she dragged him out again. The moment he got on the helicopter, he passed out.

Now that she had finished dealing with league matters, her attention shifted to him.

The more she looked, the more annoyed she got.

She was heading straight into a swarm of zombies this time. If Griffin were fully loyal to her, getting Kurt’s stuff would be easy.

And yet, this guy’s stats improved in every way except loyalty.

Just looking at him pissed her off.

“You tell me,” she snapped.

“Oh, I get it.” Griffin stretched, pulling a fan out of his storage space. “Go ahead and sleep. I’ll keep watch.” 2

“What month is it right now? Are you trying to freeze me to death with that thing?”

Griffin paused, then quickly put the fan away and pulled out a thick blanket instead. “Then wrap up. Stay warm.”

“If I bundle up now, I’ll freeze the second I get off this chopper!”

Griffin blinked. “What’s going on with you today?”

“You really don’t know?”

“I got it. It’s that time of the month, isn’t it?” He suddenly looked enlightened and pulled out a chocolate bar. “Here, have something sweet. Happens every month. You’ll be fine in a few days.”

“I am not fine!” Hayley snapped.

She lunged forward and landed two solid punches on him.

She held back, of course.

But it still hurt. A lot.

Griffin sucked in a breath. He met her glare, straightened up, and grinned as if nothing had happened. “Can’t kill me anyway.

Hit me if you want if it makes you feel better.”

Hayley clenched her teeth. “When are you going to be fully loyal to me?”

“I already am.” Griffin smiled, one eye soft with something close to fondness.

Hayley stared at him, feeling that unchanged reading, and punched his stupidly handsome face twice more.

When they landed, they were about five miles outside Fairfield, at Clark Base.

Inside the packed base, a large open area had been cleared just to receive Hayley.

It was early evening. Toxic gas had started drifting out over Fairfield.

Nighttime wasn’t ideal for retrieving anything.

Hayley decided to stay the night at Clark Base.

Liam had already sent word ahead. The moment the base director, Clark Kinsman, heard she was coming, he cleared the space to welcome her

The first thing Hayley saw was a barrel-shaped base built from sheet metal and concrete on all sides.

It was crowded. Most people lived in makeshift shacks. Only two or three dozen buildings stood in the center, clearly leftovers from before the apocalypse.

Using those old structures as the core, they had built a mid-sized base. There was a mountain behind them and a river in front, with relatively few zombies nearby.

The sound of the helicopter drew in the scattered zombies outside. They gathered at the outer barrier, howling and clawing.

Inside, people stared wide-eyed at the approaching aircraft.
