Chapter 840
Once Hayley finished grabbing everything, every zombie she had drawn in along the way flooded into the underground garage…
The already cramped space turned into a solid wall of bodies. There was no room left to move.
Hayley expanded her air barrier, förcing out a pocket of space around her. The more zombies pressed in, the more mental energy it took to hold it.
They packed in tight, layer after layer, forming an endless mass that made your scalp crawl just looking at it.
“Raarh! Raarh!”
“Raarh!”
“June, now! Drop the charges!” Hayley shouted into her earpiece.
The order went out immediately.
Hayley had expected this. Coming into a city like this meant getting swallowed by a sea of zombies. With a population of over three million before the fall, there was no such thing as clearing them all out.
Fighting them head-on wasn’t an option.
Hayley was strong, but against millions, one mistake was all it would take. Fast in, fast out. Grab the supplies and leave. That was the only way.
After giving the order, Hayley pushed forward, holding the barrier as she forced her way toward the exit.
Séconds ticked by.
Hayley didn’t hear the explosion she had been bracing for.
“Raarh!”
A zombie burst out of the pile like a battering ram and slammed into her barrier.
The shield shuddered.
The impact carried a strange mental energy.
The zombie wore a yellow delivery jacket. Its helmet hung crooked behind its head. Its skull was grotesquely oversized.
A massive tumor bulged from its forehead, swollen with pus. Smaller growths clustered around it in uneven lumps, like something diseased and alive at the same time. Its eyes had been pushed out of their sockets by the swelling.
What used to be a delivery guy barely looked human anymore.
“Raarh! Raarh!”
It opened its mouth wide and clawed at the barrier, pounding again and again.
Each strike sent a tremor through the shield. It felt like the blows were landing right against Hayley’s skull.
It was her first time facing this kind.

A level 5 mental-variant zombie! It was stronger than the mutated teacher she had fought at the school.
“Raarh! Raarh!”
Another fast one shot forward from the swarm.
It moved like a motikey, grabbing onto other zombies, stepping on their heads as it launched itself forward.
A courier uniform still clung to its body.
Its limbs had mutated, hands and feet twice the normal size. Its shoes had long since been torn apart, stretched open by its oversized feet. The soles flapped loose behind its heels, exposing pale, dead toes.
As it surged ahead, it kicked one of its own kind aside. Another unlucky zombie took the hit straight to the face.
When it used that zombie’s face as a step, the pressure crushed its bulging eye and popped it right out of the socket.
Pop.
Two full eyeballs dropped to the ground, trailing strands of nerve tissue. They were instantly trampled into the mess underfoot.
“Raarh!”
