Chapter 843
Hayley looked out toward downtown Fairfield.
A cloud of green toxic fog was rising into the air.
And inside that fog, the giant zombie was coming.
“How is this possible?” June stared outside, stunned. “Why is the toxic fog rising this early?”
The moment she finished speaking, the two women in the back seat moved at the same time.
Each of them pulled out a syringe and lunged forward, aiming straight at Hayley and June in the front.
They were fast. So fast that June’s mind went blank.

The syringes stopped just inches away, blocked by an invisible barrier. The next second, two sickening cracks rang out.
Both women’s arms went limp, hanging uselessly.
Hayley had already snapped their wrists in a blur of motion. They tried to struggle, but her hands shot out and locked around
their throats.
It all happened so fast that by the time anyone reacted, both women were already pinned in her grip, unable to move.
“They’re not survivors,” June said, realization hitting late.
“You just figured that out?” Hayley tightened her grip, eyes cold. “Fairfield’s been pumping out toxic gas for over two years. No normal survivor could still be alive here.”
Other cities still had a chance. Fairfield didn’t
No one lived here.
Except Kurt.
“Did Ascendant Creed send you?”
Hayley stared them down.
Their bodies twisted at unnatural angles. Up close, their skin didn’t look normal either. It wasn’t from the green gas. It was the pale, lifeless white of a corpse.
“Raarh!”
The daughter mutated first.
Right in front of Hayley, her eyes turned gray-white, her body jerking violently as her mouth split open. She lunged forward, snapping her jaws again and again at Hayley.
The next instant, her head snapped to the side.
A blade had buried itself dead center in her forehead.
Hayley dropped the newly mutated zombie daughter with a single clean strike. Right beside her, the mother suddenly snapped, her body starting to mutate, too.
Hayley caught something strange. One of the woman’s eyes had already turned a cloudy gray, while the other was still normal.
It looked just like Griffin. 1

But that didn’t matter.
“Raarh!”
Even with only one eye fully turned, the mother erupted with full zombie strength, every trace of humanity gone. Hayley didn’t hesitate and ended her with one swift slash as well.
The whole thing took less than/three seconds.
When the mother and daughter hit the ground, Hayley searched their bodies and found two numbered keycards.
Each card had a sword emblem printed on it.
The Sovereign Legion of Ascendant Creed.
