Chapter 856
After Liam heard Tavian’s message, his expression went through a whole range of changes.
His jaw tightened, his face flushed red, and he finally forced out, “Who’s Tavian?”
Hayley thought about Liam’s sudden confession not long ago. She held up the communicator and gave a small smile. “You could say… He’s your competition.”
Liam froze.
“Don’t panic,” Hayley assured him. “You’ve still got a shot. I’ll get you an answer.”
With that, Hayley shut off the communicator and bolted out of her office.
She headed straight for Ruby’s lab.
Hayley took promises seriously. If she said she would do something, she followed through. She wasn’t going to interfere in Ruby’s personal life, but she still had to give both sides an answer.
Tavian or Liam, it didn’t matter.
“Boss!” Thomas straightened up the moment he saw Hayley rushing over.
“Is my aunt inside?”
“She’s taking a nap.”
Hayley gave a quick wave and slowed her steps as she walked in.
Ever since Ruby woke up, she had been sleeping a lot. Kurt had said it was normal. Her body was still recovering.
As soon as Hayley entered the lab, she saw Ruby lying on a recliner, fast asleep.
She didn’t disturb Ruby. Instead, she stepped closer, planning to check on Ruby’s research.
That was when she heard it.
“Kyle… Don’t go!”
Hayley turned sharply.
Ruby’s face was twisted in pain. She grabbed Hayley’s hand tightly, repeating Kyle’s name over and over.
Kyle…
“Only I get to leave you, not the other way around! You jerk!”
Ruby suddenly snapped her eyes open, fear from the nightmare still lingering in them.
“Holly…”
“Hey.” Hayley smiled at her.
Still shaken, Ruby rubbed her head, then smiled back. “I’m so glad you’re here, Come give me a proper hug.”
“Hold on. Who’s Kyle?” Hayley asked, watching her closely.
The smile on Ruby’s face stiffened. “What are you talking about?”

“Kyle is your ex, right?”
“Grown-up matters. Not your business.” Ruby reached out and lightly tapped her cheek.
“I’ve met him,” Hayley said calmly.
Ruby’s expression changed instantly. “Where did you see him?”
Seeing how tense she became, Hayley understood right away. Ruby cared about Kyle more than she had thought. Now, Hayley knew the truth behind their divorce. It hadn’t been about another person or some research dispute For a brief moment, she felt a trace of regret. They still cared about each other, and yet they had still separated. “I saw him when I rescued you from Sovereign Industries. He let us go,” Hayley said directly.
