The Endgame Chronicles (by Hugh White) novel Chapter 857

Chapter 857

Kyle didn’t think he could protect Ruby, so he chose to divorce her. Hayley didn’t know why it had come to that, but there had to be a reason.

After hearing everything Hayley said, Ruby froze in place, as if she had been struck by lightning.

A long moment passed.

Suddenly, she burst out laughing. Her eyes lit up, bright and alive. “I knew it!”

“Aunt Ruby…”

“Hah! I knew it. With my charm, there’s no way that idiot would just walk away from me for no reason!”

Hayley opened her mouth and then gave up, not sure what to say. Watching Ruby come back to life like this, she couldn’t help but smile.

“Yeah, you’ve got unmatched charm. So… Are you going to give someone new a chance and start a new chapter?” Ruby turned to look at her. “Who is it this time? Which poor guy just walked right into my trap?”

Hayley paused, speechless for a second.

Before she could answer, Ruby waved it off. “Forget it. Doesn’t matter who it is. I’m not interested. After the divorce, I’m done with all that. What’s so great about men, anyway? My niece is the best in the world.”

Hayley watched Ruby, still smiling. “Be honest. You still can’t let go of Uncle Kyle, can you?”

“Don’t bring up that idiot! I used to think he was a jerk. Now, I just think he’s clueless.” Ruby stood up from the bed and stretched lazily. “I hate idiots.”

She said it like it didn’t matter at all, but Hayley knew her too well.

Ruby had always been stubborn about her feelings.

Back when Hayley first rescued Ruby from that awful base, she acted like nothing had happened even after everything she had gone through. She never let anyone see the pain she carried.

Even with the divorce, when she had clearly been the

one left behind, she never told anyone the truth.

On the outside, Ruby looked strong. In truth, she carried everything alone.

“Alright, Holly. Thank you for telling me all this. Otherwise, I might’ve spent the rest of my life never understanding it.” Ruby cupped Hayley’s face gently. “What’s done is done. We move forward. That’s how it works, right?”

Hayley met her eyes and nodded firmly. “Right.”

Ruby might act tough, but she really was strong. Hayley’s own resilience came from her.

No matter what happens, you keep moving forward.

No looking back.

“So, what did you come here for today?”

“Liam invited us to dinner.”

“I’m not going. I’ve got a lot to do today.”

“Alright.” Hayley didn’t push it. “Then… You really don’t want to know more about your two admirers? One’s a handsome guy I met overseas, named Tavian. He fell for you at first sight.”

“Not interested in any of them.” Ruby didn’t even turn around.

Hayley started heading out. Just as she reached the door, Ruby suddenly rushed after her.

“Wait, who’s the other one?”

“Liam.”

Ruby stopped dead, completely thrown off. She stood there, staring after Hayley, confusion written all over her face.

Wait, what?

Liam?!

How could it be Liam?

Hayley had to be mistaken.
