Chapter 874
“Boss! We’ve got trouble!”
Ethan’s tense voice came through Hayley’s earpiece.
“There are thousands of zombies outside!”
As he reported, the sound of snarling echoed from the tunnel entrance.
Hayley gripped her blade and sprinted toward the exit.
The moment she reached the narrow passage and looked up, she saw that the entrance was completely packed. Zombies clawed over each other, howling as they surged forward in waves.
Ethan and another soldier were holding the line at the opening.
“Fall back!” Hayley shouted. “Leonard, Derek, cover them! Set the wire traps!”
“Alright!”
The moment the order dropped, Ethan and the other guard turned and ran.
Leonard and Derek charged forward, laying down steel wires as they moved, covering the retreat. As Ethan and his teammate reached the first layer of wire, they dove forward, sliding along the ground like they were on a slope.
“Raaah!”
A wild-haired zombie lunged after them, arms flailing as it tried to grab the fleeing prey. It was so close to them that it could reach them with a single stretch.
Starved beyond reason, it stretched its mouth wide, gray eyes burning with hunger as it snapped forward.
Just as its claws dug into Ethan’s shoulder, a wire sliced straight through its eye and into its skull.
The head was split diagonally.
However, it didn’t die.
The crystal core was lodged in the remaining half of its brain.
“Raaah! Raaah! Raaah!”
Even with half its head gone, the zombie clung to Ethan’s shoulder as they slid downward together.
Its claws dug in deeper, trying to tear into him.
“Raaah!”
It thrashed wildly, blackened brain matter smearing across the ground as it kept moving forward.
“Ethan!”
Leonard saw it and reacted instantly.
A blade flashed through the web of wires, chopping the zombie clean off. Only its hands remained, still clamped onto Ethan’s shoulder as he slid down.
Behind them, the horde kept coming. Wave after wave slammed forward, pushing deeper into the tunnel.
Leonard didn’t stop.
He pulled more wires into place, setting them at different heights, building layer after layer.

He and Derek covered the front stretch while the others completed the rear.
Once they saw the dense mesh behind them, both men dropped flat and crawled down fast, keeping low as they moved.
By the time they reached the bottom, the zombies behind them had stopped advancing Not because they were all dead, but
because they were jammed in place.
