Chapter 875
Unfortunately, none of the zombies was getting through that entrance anymore.
However, that also meant the people inside were completely trapped.
Hayley stared at the blocked tunnel, brows drawn tight, when a sharp scream cut through from behind.
“Aaaaah! He got grabbed by a zombie!”
Leah’s voice.
Hayley turned and flung her hand out without a word.
Smack!
The slap landed fast and loud. Even Josh, who was holding her, didn’t react in time.
“Make one more noise like that,” Hayley snarled, “and I’ll send you straight to hell.”
Hayley didn’t spare her another glance. She walked straight to Ethan.
A severed zombie arm was still clamped onto his shoulder. The hand dug in like a claw, dry and shriveled, but strong as steel.
Hayley crouched down, gloved hands gripping the wrist, and pried the fingers off one by one.
Five deep dents were left in his clothing.
She steadied him. “I’m here. You’ll be fine. Take your shirt off.”
“Okay.” Ethan met her eyes and nodded without hesitation.
The others gathered around, tense, watching closely.
Ethan pulled off his helmet and stripped off his outer layers in quick motions. Under his jacket was a ballistic vest, and even that had five deep impressions pressed into the shoulder. Beneath it was a padded jacket, then a base layer.
Once he was down to his undershirt, the skin showed only five dark bruises, no broken skin, or blood.
Everyone let out a relieved sigh.
Hayley felt the tension ease in her chest, too.
Good thing their combat gear had been upgraded multiple times by Cyril and built with advanced composite materials, so it held. Otherwise, she would’ve had to use the zombie virus inhibitor.
She only had one. Even if she could afford another, wasting it like that would’ve hurt.
Lucky break.
Hayley checked Ethan over from head to toe, making sure there wasn’t a single cut, just bruising pressed deep into the muscle.
After that, she had everyone else strip off their outer layers and check each other. No one suffered any injuries.
Only after confirming everyone was clear did she finally relax.
Colin stepped forward and asked, “Ms. Reid, what do we do now?”
The atmosphere behind him was tense in a different way.
Everyone else had gathered around Leah. Josh was staring at her already swollen cheek, his face full of concer. The rest hovered around them, sticking close to their own side.
Chapter 5-8
Only Colin had the nerve to come over.
Hayley snorted. “What do we do? We find another way out.”
“But there’s only one path here! someone from Josh’s group called out.
Hayley looked at them like they were idiots.
So this was why they had gotten trapped. Those people couldn’t think their way out of a box.
“No path doesn’t mean no way.”
If there’s an obstacle, you carve through it. If there’s a gap, you find a way across.
