Chapter 877
Josh’s expression steadied, returning to his usual composure. After setting Leah down, he picked up a shovel, handed one to her, and turned to join the digging line.
Leah stood there, gripping the shovel, clearly unwilling. Her whole body still ached.
“Move it, side piece.”
Hayley didn’t soften it at all. She said it straight to Leah’s face.
Leah’s expression twisted, her face flushing red with anger and humiliation.
That label hit hard.
What kind of person would just call someone that out loud?
But after taking a kick and a slap from Hayley, and with Josh no longer backing her up, Leah had no choice but to swallow it and get to work.
The kick she had taken earlier had landed solidly against her lower back.
Every step hurt. Every swing of the shovel sent pain shooting through her body. Leah suffered through it, miserable.
Meanwhile, quite a few people found the situation oddly satisfying.
Especially Colin.
He had come here on rescue missions before. Once, Maisie had even led the team herself.
He had seen everything she did. Out there, Maisie had been begging everywhere for help, going through everything she could to bring Hayley here, all while struggling to hold the base together.
Meanwhile, their director, Josh, had been messing around behind her back. 1
Colin had heard every word Leah said in that sealed room.
What she did was absolutely despicable. Watching her get put in her place now felt long overdue.
Even the others in Josh’s group felt the same.
Between Leah and Maisie, their loyalty leaned heavily toward Maisie.
Maisie had been with Josh for over a decade, and they were married. What Leah did was as obvious as it got.
Still, this was their leader’s personal matter, No one dared say it out loud. They kept their heads down and worked faster, pretending not to notice her struggle.
Soon, three hours passed.
They were about halfway through the tunnel.
Up above, it was already getting close to evening.
Hayley checked her watch, a flicker of concern crossing her mind.
Night was coming.
At this rate, they might have to spend it down here.
“Take a break. Eat something. Thirty minutes, then we keep going,” Hayley called out.
“Alright!”

After hours of digging and a full day of fighting, everyone was exhausted.
Hayley pulled boxed meats from her inventory and handed them out. She also brought food over to Ethan at the entrance, checking the situation there while feinforcing the wire traps.
Josh’s group stopped as well, but they didn’t get any food.
Hayley had agreed to rescue them, not feed them.3
Watching the others open their meals, the smell of hot food filling the air, Josh’s people couldn’t help staring.
“Let’s eat, too,” Josh said, turning to Leah. “Leah, get the supplies.”
All their resources were stored in her inventory.
Leah huffed, her voice soft and aggrieved. “I’ve been working all day, and no one cared. Now you only remember me when you need something.”
“Just take it out,” Josh said.
“Josh, do you care about me?”
