The Endgame Chronicles (by Hugh White) novel Chapter 882

Time ticked by, second after second.

At the tunnel entrance, everyone was drenched in sweat as they dug.

Basket after basket of dirt was hauled out and tossed aside. The two people at the front drove forward like drill bits, focused only on breaking through, while the ones behind them worked in a chain, clearing the soil as fast as it came loose.

If the ones leading slowed even a little, the people behind would shove them aside and take over. They were already running on fumes, but somehow, they were digging faster than before.

Hayley still held firm against the steel plate.

She could tell that on the other side, there were no fewer than 1,000 zombies crammed into the tunnel. If it were people packed in there, they would have been crushed or suffocated long ago.

However, the zombies showed no signs of stopping. They kept forcing their way forward, desperate to squeeze in.

If someone could look down from above, they would see an overwhelming horde, like ants swarming back to their nest, pouring into the tunnel in a frenzy.

Inside the tunnel, the front and even the ground beneath were nothing but mangled zombie remains.

The steel wire mesh hammered into the tunnel walls twisted and split apart one strand at a time, slick with blood.

The zombies kept pushing. Like something being crushed in a press, their already dried-out bodies and the surrounding remains were squeezed harder and harder, wringing out what little fluid was left in them.

Thick, dark sludge poured down the sloped tunnel. A pool of blackened blood had already spread around Hayley’s feet.

She braced the steel plate with both hands.

Suddenly, she felt a surge of force from within the tunnel, stronger than before.

“Raarh!”

“Raarh! Raarh! Raarh!”

The howls echoed through the tunnel.

This wasn’t the usual hunger-driven sound.

There was fear in it.

Crack, crack!

It was like a massive hammer had slammed through the tunnel. The zombies already crushed tight inside had no room left, and their bones shattered in a rapid cascade.

Some of the weaker ones burst outright, their bodies collapsing under the pressure, crystal cores popping free from their skulls The stronger ones could only endure as their bodies were compressed further and further.

Dark blood and pus gushed out in heavy streams. The pool at Hayley’s feet spread even faster.

Boom!

The steel plate in front of her shuddered. Hayley pressed her second hand firmly against it.

There was a crazy strong strength-enhanced zombie among the horde.

The moment both her hands braced the plate, her eyes sharpened.

There was no doubt about it. She was dealing with a level 6 strength-enhanced zombie!

This place had actually produced a level 6 zombie!

Even in the toxic fog of Fairfield, the strongest she had seen were only level 5 at most.

And now, the first level 6 had appeared here.

“Pick it up!” Hayley called, her brow tightening.

If they were only level 4 or level 5 zombies, even in large numbers, it wouldn’t be a problem. She had fought them before. She knew their limits, no matter how strong they got.

However, a completely new level was different.

She wouldn’t underestimate it for a second.
