Chapter 883
There was only a single steel plate between Hayley and the level 6 strength-enhanced zombie.
Boom!
The slab in front of Hayley trembled.
Inside the tunnel, the level 6 zombie slammed into it with everything it had. Each impact crushed the unlucky lower-level zombies packed in front, flattening them over and over again.
The tunnel, once jammed tight, was starting to open up under that force.
Hayley stayed locked in, bracing the plate head-on. After taking several of its hits, she started to get a read on it.
A level 6 zombie’s raw strength was roughly a fifth of hers.
For abilities tied to physical limits like speed and strength, each level didn’t create a massive gap the way elemental abilities did.
The increase was incremental, just a slight bump each time.
As someone at the peak of her tier, Hayley had no equal at the same level. Even so, the difference between her and a level 6 strength-type zombie wasn’t overwhelming. 1
At most, she was about five times more powerful.
As she figured that out, she barely got to steady her breath when a crushing force surged from the other side.
Boom!
The impact rang out like a massive bell struck at full force. It felt like a heavy war machine had slammed into the plate, forcing a gap open even against Hayley’s full strength.
A mess of pulp-like zombie remains and crystal cores burst through the opening.
Under that force…
“Damn it! There are six of them!”
Hayley’s eyes went wide as both her hands strained to hold the plate in place.
More level 6 strength-type zombies had forced their way in from deeper in the tunnel. What kind of place was this to produce so many high-level zombies?
Boom! Boom!
The steel plate shook violently with each collision, and every hit sent more crushed remains flying out.
“How much longer do you need?” Hayley shouted.
Behind her, Leonard and the others yelled back, “Boss, the soil changed! We need about 30 more minutes!”
“Then move faster. I’ll hold it!”
Hayley locked her arms, bracing the plate that was already on the verge of giving way.
Under the full-force assaults of multiple level 6 strength-enhanced zombies, the steel slab was barely holding.
A cold edge flashed in Hayley’s eyes. Every extra minute she bought mattered. If she couldn’t hold it anymore, she would have to cut loose and fight.
One minute.

Five minutes.
Ten minutes.
Fifteen…
Sweat began to bead on her forehead.
Hayley was holding back something stronger than herself. It had been a long time since she felt her body burning through energy like this, and her heartbeat picked up speed.
The thunderous impacts echoed down the tunnel, reaching everyone behind her.
When Josh and the others heard it, it felt like the ground itself was collapsing, like a landslide crashing down on them.
Under that kind of force, they felt as fragile as ants, like they could be crushed flat in an instant.
And yet, Hayley held.
She stood there alone and held the line.
Twenty minutes.
Just how strong was she?
As they stood there in shock, a sudden blaze lit up behind the steel plate, bright enough to wash everything in firelight, the temperature spiking in an instant.
A fire-element zombie corrupted. And not just any; a level 6.
Flames burst through the gap in the plate, and within seconds, the steel began to glow red.
The moment the fire flared, Josh and the others felt their hearts drop. Now, even a high-level fire-element zombie had
appeared.
The very next second, they saw a wide surge of mist spread through the air.
