Chapter 885
Before anyone could even react, Hayley’s long blade shot out. The massive bolt of lightning crashed straight into it.
Boom!
She drew the Desert Eagle at her waist and fired at him.
It all happened in the blink of an eye.
As the bullets reached him, the man slipped past them with ease.
Seeing that, Hayley caught the lightning-drawn blade midair and charged.
Clang!
The man across from her drew his own blade. Steel met steel, their strikes flashing through the night in a blur.
Hayley quickly realized he could match every move she made. They were evenly matched. There was no difference in speed or strength.
It wasn’t that she was running low on stamina. She could feel something off about him.
There was a field around him. It dragged her down, suppressing her enhancements, forcing her onto the same level as him.
At the same time, her abilities were being restricted.
All she had left were her raw physical boosts and the combat training she had drilled into her body. In a matter of seconds, they traded dozens of blows, and she couldn’t find a single opening.
A cold glint flickered in her eyes.
She deliberately left herself exposed, turning her back to him.
It wasn’t reckless.
She wore a combat suit issued by the system. Even if he landed a hit, it would only do minor damage. If he took the bait, though, she could close the distance and end it.
So she gave him her back.
The man didn’t hesitate. He raised his blade and brought it down.
Just before it struck, he caught a clear look at her face. For a split second, his strike faltered.
That was all Hayley needed.
Her blade drove straight into his heart.
A wet, sharp sound rang out. Blood seeped out from the wound.
It wasn’t the heavy spray she had expected. Just a thin flow.
Still, she finally saw him clearly.
Their eyes met.
His gaze was dark, deep as ink.
He looked at her and said, flat and cold, “That settles what I owed you.”
Hayley froze for a fraction of a second.

She remembered.
At the end of the Sovereign Academy’s 3,000-person selection, the Somervale 3-day survival trial. Aside from her and her team, he had been the only one left alive.
She had even handed him a bottle of water back then.
It was him.
Clap. Clap. Clap.
Applause broke through the tension.
“Now that was impressive.”
A man in a suit stepped out of the darkness.
The one Hayley had just stabbed through the heart pulled the blade free with a grimace, pressed a hand over the wound, and walked silently to his side.
The suited man didn’t even glance at him.
