Chapter 890

The helicopter touched down beside Maisie.

The cabin door swung open.

The first ones out were several members of the West Sea Base.

Colin led the way. The moment his boots hit the familiar wall of their base, he froze for a second, fee like he had stepped into another lifetime.

They were back.

They had actually made it back!

It had only been a day and a night, but that rescue mission felt like it had stretched on forever.

So many high-level zombies. The underground swarm. The Sovereign Legion…

More than once, they had run for their lives with death right on their heels. Somehow, every single one them had made it out.

It completely shattered everything Colin thought he understood about this world.

Behind him, the others who had been running on fumes for days could barely stand. Excitement and

exhaustion hit them all at once.

They were home.

They never thought they would see this place again.

Back when they were trapped in that underground warehouse, they had already accepted they would die

there.

Now they stood on their own base’s wall, alive, watching a brand-new sun rise into the sky.

A few of them couldn’t hold it in anymore.

They were back. They really made it back.

Just then, a figure in a padded coat rushed toward them like a gust of wind.

“Honey!”

Maisie pushed past everyone and threw herself into the arms of the man who had just stepped down

last.

Her usual calm composure shattered. For the first time, her steady, serious face showed something fragile, something almost panicked.

“You’re finally back.”

Her voice trembled as she buried herself against him.

Seeing this, everyone else quietly looked away, their expressions complicated. Not a single person sa word.

Then a soft, delicate voice drifted out from inside the helicopter.

“Josh, I can’t move. Help me, please.”

It was Leah.

She was the most seriously injured among those rescued. Her waist, her face, her body… All of it bore the marks of Hayley’s beating.

The moment Leah spoke, Josh, still standing there with Maisie in his arms, stiffened. Before he could react, another familiar voice came from the cockpit.

“What’s wrong with her? Griffin, give her a kick and send her down.”

It was Hayley.

“Got it, Captain Gorgeous!”

From the back, Griffin didn’t hesitate. He planted a foot and kicked.

Leah didn’t even have time to say she was fine before she dropped with a dull thud.

Maisie, confused by what she was seeing, let go of Josh and stepped forward to help.

“Leah, what happened to you?”

Leah had been her and Josh’s friend for over a decade. Back in high school, they had shared a desk for

all three years.

Leah had been the one to ask the teacher for it, saying she wanted to learn from Maisie. The teacher had been more than happy to encourage that kind of initiative, so she arranged it.

And just like that, it lasted all three years.
