The Endgame Chronicles (by Hugh White) novel Chapter 896

Chapter 896

The room filled with voices, all united.

Hearing them, Hayley felt a quiet sense of relief settle in her chest. For the first time, it was clear she wasn’t standing alone.

Everyone behind her was in this fight with her.

This wasn’t just her battle anymore, but a full-scale clash between humanity and zombies.

Just as Hayley was about to unlock every warehouse and begin distributing supplies, a sharp signal pulsed through her territory link. The radar system immediately flagged incoming hostiles.

At the same time, alarms blared outside.

“Hayley, we’ve got enemies incoming!” Liam called out, his voice tight with urgency.

In the next instant, sharp streaks cut across the sky as explosions echoed one after another. Hayley rushed with the others to the highest point of the rooftop.

From there, they could clearly see the direction of the sea, where waves of ultra-fast micro fighter jets were slicing through the air toward them.

Below, the ground-based interception systems roared to life. Short, mid, and long-range defenses activated all at once as they fired continuously at the incoming aircraft.

Explosions burst across the sky like fireworks in broad daylight, each impact blooming into clouds of green mist as one jet after another was taken down before crossing into their airspace.

Not a single enemy aircraft made it through.

Even then, Hayley didn’t feel relieved. Her gaze stayed fixed on those drifting clouds of green mist. The vapor spread slowly as it descended, settling against the invisible barrier that shielded Haylight League, where it was completely blocked on contact.

Despite that, Hayley could clearly feel it: the barrier was being worn down.

A cold realization rose in her chest.

That substance was…

Right then, Alex came running over in a hurry.

“Hayley! Something’s wrong!”

At the same moment, over at Clark Base, the sky was also filled with waves of high-speed micro fighters.

Inside a locked room, June’s voice crackled through the radio.

“No way! Whitney’s actually lost it, hasn’t she? She wants you to marry Mr. Kinsman, too?”

Fiona’s expression turned heavy the moment she heard that.

It was true.

Whitney had completely lost her mind.

Recently, Whitney had been coming to Fiona again and again, trying to pressure her into marrying Clark as well; all because she couldn’t have children and wanted Fiona to give him an heir in her place.

Fiona didn’t even know how to react to that. For the first time, she seriously regretted not leaving earlier with June and the others, taking her parents, and going to Haylight League.

Especially after hearing June describe it as somewhere that felt like paradise, that sense of longing only grew stronger.

After a brief hesitation, Fiona gathered her courage and sent a message.

[June, does Ms. Reid still need people? Can I bring my parents and come over?]

She had just sent it when a loud bang slammed against her door.

“Mom, I’m talking to June,” Fiona said quickly.

But instead of stopping, the pounding only grew more violent, each hit heavier than the last, as if something was throwing itself against the door over and over, trying to break through the thin wood.
