Chapter 901
The buffer zone wouldn’t hold them.
The canyon would fall. Once it did, the buffer behind it would collapse right after. Haylight League wou be facing the dead at their gates all over again.
“Fall back!” Hayley jumped down from the low-hovering helicopter and reached for Milo.
At that exact moment, about eight figures in torn military uniforms vaulted up at once.
They were the Sovereign Legion zombies she had seen before.
Each one stood nearly twice the size of a normal infected, their bodies intact but threaded with dark veins beneath pale, lifeless skin. Their clouded eyes were locked forward, their movements fast and explosive.
The second Milo saw them, something feral lit in his eyes.
He slammed a fresh belt of ammunition into his submachine gun, the weapon kicking hard against his
solid shoulder as he braced himself, his stance locked in place.
His muscles absorbed the recoil, as if he were part of the weapon itself. His gift surged to full output.
Metal-aligned enhancement.
His metal-element gift amplified firearms, especially high-rate weapons.
The next burst roared out.
Each round hit like a compact explosive, tearing into the space ahead of him.
Against ordinary zombies, that kind of fire would shred them completely.
But this time, it was different.
“Raarh!”
The incoming figures didn’t slow. They pushed straight through the storm of bullets, impacts leaving only shallow marks across their bodies.
Their frames had been reinforced beyond normal limits.
In the next instant, they lunged forward, jaws opening wide as they closed in on Milo.
An air barrier snapped into place between them. Hayley caught Milo and shoved him back toward the helicopter.
“Move!” Her voice cut through everything. “Everyone, fall back!”
The operators stationed on the platforms hesitated for half a second before turning and running.

Gunfire rattled in sharp bursts as helicopters from the League swept in overhead. Liam and his team leaned out, laying down suppressive fire while hauling people up from below.
More than 500 operators began pulling back under heavy cover.
One by one, they were lifted out.
The moment the last of them cleared the line, the defensive gate behind them gave way. It collapsed under the weight of the horde.
A flood of bodies surged forward, wave after wave pouring through the canyon like a broken dam.
Hayley climbed last, gripping the rope ladder as the helicopter lifted.
Below her, zombies surged upward, leaping and clawing, each one trying to reach her.
One of the higher-level zombies kicked off the heads of the others and launched itself up with terrifying force. Its claws caught the bottom rung of the ladder with a harsh metallic scrape.
“Raarh… Raarh!”
It latched on and swung, its mouth opening wide toward Hayley as it tried to climb higher.
Hayley didn’t hesitate. She swung her blade down and severed the rung beneath her.
