Chapter 904

Sharon and Cloudia were sent away by Hayley.

As soon as they stepped out of Hayley’s shelter area, they ran into Nash.

“Sharon.”

He was dressed in a clean, fitted combat uniform and looked noticeably taller than before. He strode straight toward Sharon.

He was one of the kids Hayley had taken in from Scott.

Back then, he stuck close to her, but he was too young and too weak. Hayley had no interest in dragging around a kid who couldn’t keep up, so she sent him straight into the training camp.

Two years had changed him completely.

He had shot up in height, grown into a tall, sharp-looking young man. The time in the military camp had stripped away most of the softness from his face, replacing it with something steadier, more grounded.

He looked nothing like the skinny, struggling kid he used to be under Scott.

“Nash.” Sharon ran up to him.

“Well?” he asked.

“She said no.”

“Then that’s it,” Nash said, reaching out to ruffle her hair. “You’re supposed to be protected. You should leave.”

Sharon shook her head. “No! Don’t treat us like kids. We’re not scared of zombies!”

“This isn’t the time for you to act tough.”

“Everyone already decided. We’re staying. We’ll fight with you until the end!”

“Cloudia…”

Before Nash could finish, Anthony and Kate came running over.

“Cloudia! You need to get in the vehicle!”

Anthony was one of Hayley’s first residents. They couldn’t leave; they were staying to fight.

However, their daughter had to go.

“Dad, Mom, I’m here!” Cloudia replied.

“What are you doing here?” Anthony demanded.

“I came to talk to Ms. Reid. I told her we’re all staying.”

“That’s enough!” Anthony snapped, anger rising. “Come with me now. Mr. Kirk is organizing the evacuation.”

“I’m not going anywhere!” Cloudia stood her ground, stubborn as ever.

She let her father grab her arm, but she didn’t budge an inch. Her strength had already awakened. After years of training,

Anthony couldn’t move her at all.

“So now you don’t even listen to me?” His voice shook. “Get moving!”

“No!”

Anthony stared at her, completely unable to control her. His eyes reddened as frustration boiled over. His hand came up and struck her across the face.

It was the first time he had ever hit her.

Cloudia was everything to him. She had grown up under protection, never hearing a harsh word from him, never lacking

anything.

They had been lucky from the very beginning, meeting Hayley early and surviving four years of the apocalypse without facing

the worst of it.

If he could trade places with her, he would do it without hesitation, just to let her live safely.

And yet, no one could protect her anymore.

“Why would you do that?” Kate cried out.
