“Mr. Kirk, don’t get upset. Let me handle this.”
Robert kept his usual easy smile as he spoke to Alex, gently steering him away while he was still overwhelmed, then turned back
to Sienna.
“Sienna, take the kids and go. It’s not safe here.”
“I’m not going.” Sienna shook her head without hesitation repeating herself. “My dad is here. My home is here.”
“What about the kids, then? When the zombies come, they’ll be in danger.”
In the entire Haylight League, Robert was the only one who could talk to Sienna without friction. He was patient, steady, and willing to listen, even when the other person couldn’t fully process things.
Sienna paused for a moment after hearing him, a flicker of confusion passing through her clear eyes, before her expression settled again. “Dr. Corbyn is here.”
“Ms. Reid is leaving,” Robert said. “She’s going somewhere even more dangerous.”
“Then I’ll go with her.” Sienna lifted her head. “I’ll go with her.”
“We’re going, too!”
“We’re going with the doctor!”
The five little ones spoke up all at once.
At that point, most people would have given up.
Robert didn’t. He kept smiling, his voice calm. “Ms. Reid is going there for us. She’s doing it to protect everyone here. We can’t make things harder for her.”
Sienna seemed to process that, just a little.
Then, she nodded. “I understand. You all go.”
She gently pushed the five children toward the helicopter.
Immediately, they grabbed onto her hands, holding tight.
“Mom!”
“Mom!”
“Mom!”
“You can’t leave us!”
Their eyes were wide, locked onto her.
Sienna smiled, and for once, there was something clear and thoughtful behind her gaze.
“I’m not leaving you. It’s just like before with Dr. Corbyn. You go first, one by one. Once you’re there, I’ll come with her to find
you.” 1/
The children hesitated, then slowly let go.
They trusted her.
One by one, they climbed into the helicopter. They had always been the most obedient kids. They did whatever their mother told

them to do.
“Mom, you have to come find us with the doctor.”
“I will,” Sienna said softly. Tears welled up in her eyes. She lowered her head and kissed each of them on the forehead. “Be good. Don’t talk.”
The children pressed their lips together and nodded seriously.
They understood silence better than anyone. After living in the hospital for a year, they had learned not to speak.
Once all five were inside, Robert spoke again. “You should go, too. Boss said you’re supposed to leave.”
Sienna shook her head. “No. I’m staying here. I’m waiting for my dad and Dr. Corbyn to come back.”
Robert paused, something tightening in his chest.
He didn’t argue anymore.
He simply led her to the side and watched as the helicopter lifted into the air, heading toward Ark One, the safest place left.
At that moment, in a small bar across the city.
The place was unusually quiet. At this hour, it used to be packed with people coming in after work to unwind.
But not anymore.
These past two days, reost people chose to stay home with their families.
