Earlier, Nina had sent Mr. Crow to deliver a note to Rose, demanding the details of the so-called “failed” test report for the PawGuard vaccine.

The report itself wasn’t classified.

As an internal file that never passed review, it had already been filed with the regulators. Technically, it could be accessed, but it wasn’t open to the public. Nina had always been annoyed that she couldn’t get her hands on it.

In the note, Nina made it clear that if Rose didn’t cooperate, she’d sue her for breach of contract and make her pay until she was bankrupt.

Mr. Crow craned his neck, throat bobbing as he started dumping stuff out from his beak pouch.

Crows had this super stretchy “pop-up storage bag” hidden right under their tongue root, perfect for hauling around random small loot.

With a loud plop, a fifty-cent coin landed in Nina’s palm, which was still slick with crow spit.

Nina looked downright appalled. “Seriously? Tossing loose change at me? Am I supposed to be begging here or what?”

Mr. Crow frantically flapped his wings, squawking, “Hold on, that’s just the first thing! There’s more!”

Then, like pulling off a magic trick, Mr. Crow started dropping more little treasures from his beak. There was a glass marble, a bottle cap, and even a sparkling button.

Finally, he produced a mini hard drive, carefully wrapped in cling film.

Nina’s eyes

lit

up at once.

This hard drive must have the detailed failed PawGuard vaccine test report that Røse sent over!

Nina lowered her voice and whispered, “Did you burn the note?”

Mr. Crow instantly took on the air of a secret agent, his excitement obvious as he leaned in and spoke even softer.

He said, “Don’t worry. I watched her burn it myself. Not a single scrap left behind!”

Nina ran a virus scan before plugging the hard drive into her computer.

Once it loaded, she found it indeed was the full, detailed report on the supposedly “failed” PawGuard vaccine test.

She tightened her grip on the hard drive, finally feeling at ease.

Now all she needed was to whip up a comparison report showing the Summer family’s new vaccine had practically the same formula as PawGuard, then hand it over to the Animal Health Bureau.

While she was taking a break, Nina had already reached out to Hector, the Forestry Department staffer who’d helped her recruit vets before,

Hector not only sent over the contact info of staff at the Animal Health Bureau, but he also made it clear he was ready to help out.

Once Nina had all the evidence, he’d immediately help her submit the materials and get in touch with the relevant departments.

After all, animal vaccines were a big deal, and no room for any mistakes!

Chapter 144

The next morning, Nina made a quick trip to the Jelasburg Police Department to give her statement.

She walked the officers through every detail about how she’d tracked down the suspect’s trail and finally pinned down who

they were.

After finishing her statement, she happened to run into Grant from the Detective Squad.

When Grant heard she was heading to Jelasburg University to pick up some documents, he offered, “I’m going that way anyway. Let me give you a ride.”

On the way, Nina couldn’t help but ask, “Grant, about that suspect we caught yesterday, Quinn. Is she really the killer?”

Grant nodded, his tone weighed down. “Yeah, it’s her. Although she’s just a college kid, she cracked pretty fast once questioning started.” He paused, then added with a sigh, “But honestly, she’s got some major issues upstairs.”

Grant let out a deep sigh and began, his voice heavy, “Let me tell you a bit about the suspect.

“Her name’s Quinn White, probably twenty-four or twenty-five. She’s what folks around here call a campus squatter. She has been studying for grad school year after year, but has never quite made it.

“She isn’t actually enrolled at Jelasburg University, but for two years now, she’s been renting a place just outside the campus, burying herself in her exam prep, day in and day out.”

“Her family’s not well-off. Maybe they can scrape by and keep her in school, maybe not. So she’s stuck picking up odd jobs just to survive. All that financial pressure has only fed her anxiety, made her even more tense.

“Quinn’s life was almost completely shut away from the world. Apart from prepping for those exams, she had nothing going

“She was borderline obsessed with the Sculpture Department. She has probably been sneaking into classes for ages. She knew the teachers, the star students, and the victim.

“In her mind, she’d already made herself a member of the Sculpture Department.”

Nina felt a creeping chill at the killer’s obsessive drive. “And then?” she pressed.

Grant shook his head, his voice still heavy. “Quinn intentionally got close to the victim, gradually becoming acquainted. She kept asking for advice on her sculptures, always trying to get the victim’s attention.”

He rubbed his forehead and went on, “When the victim found out Quinn had tried for grad school twice, switching majors each time and still flunking out, all while doing part-time jobs to scrape by, she really sympathized with her.

“So she took Quinn seriously, giving her thoughtful feedback every time.”

Grant let out a heavy sigh. “After seeing Quinn’s final piece, the victim realized there was no way Quinn’d make it into grad school with skills like that. So, out of real kindness and professionalism, she gave Quinn some brutally honest, razor-sharp

feedback.”

His expression grew even more serious. “She just wanted Quinn to face reality. Either double down on her efforts or think seriously about a different path.

“The victim told Quinn that she wasn’t skilled enough and she needed a lot more practice.”

Grant paused, his voice going cold. “But instead of learning from it, Quinn felt humiliated and completely enraged. She tricked the victim into a supermarket walk-in freezer, killed her, and left the body frozen. Then, driven by revenge, she cruelly cut off the victim’s hands.”

As Nina listened to Grant’s account, the whole story made her skin crawl.

Chapter 144

This was like some twisted real-life version of “The Farmer and the Snake”.

She let out a deep sigh, the weight in her chest threatening to suffocate her.

Such a warm and kind girl was supposed to graduate from Jelasburg University’s Art Department this summer and begin a bright new chapter. All it took was one brutally honest piece of advice, given in good faith, to leave her with a fate this devastating.

As they talked, the car slowly pulled into Jelasburg University. Grant parked, and the two of them headed toward the administration building.

Grant was heading to a meeting room to brief the school on the case, while Nina needed to grab the lab keys from Spencer, who was also in the meeting. It was a perfect chance to tag along.

As soon as they stepped into the conference room, Nina’s eyes landed on a surprising figure.

Claire stood beside Spencer, across from Wilfred, a bright smile on her face as she handed over her speech draft. “Mr. Sullivan, is there anyway I can still improve in this speech?”

The man known as Wilfred was the current president of Jelasburg University.

With his square jaw and slightly stocky frame, Wilfred was all smiles. “Absolutely perfect! Claire, I want you to kick off tomorrow’s opening ceremony. Make sure you deliver it with style.”

He gave Claire a friendly pat on the shoulder, his tone brimming with expectation. “I’m really counting on you.

“With your FlashVax Vaccine, you’re going to make the Department of Veterinary Medicine of Jelasburg University famous everywhere!”
