The Department of Veterinary Medicine at Jelasburg University was newly established, having been founded only five years
ago.
Compared with others, Jelasburg University’s program barely made a splash.
Most animal hospitals and related companies tended to trust grads from those more famous schools, thinking they must be more professional. So honestly, having a Jelasburg University vet degree didn’t really mean much in the industry.
Still, the university was doing its best to boost the reputation and level of its Department of Veterinary Medicine.
Claire, who was so young but had already become the director of Summer Veterinary Group and creator of the groundbreaking FlashVax Vaccine that blew every other product out of the water, finally gave Wilfred a real sense of hope.
Wilfred was determined to make Claire the ace and poster girl of Jelasburg University’s Department of Veterinary Medicine.
When Claire heard how much Wilfred appreciated her, she flashed a humble smile. “Thanks, Mr. Sullivan, but I’m just getting started. There’s still so much I need to learn from you and all the teachers here.”
Hearing that made Wilfred feel genuinely pleased. He was now even more certain that Claire was a rising star worth backing.
As soon as Wilfred saw Grant walk in, he immediately got up to greet him.
“Grant, thank you
all for your hard work on this case! We wouldn’t have nailed it so fast without your team’s help,” he said.
Grant waved his hand and said, “Not a big deal. We caught the culprit quickly enough, but honestly, that’s all thanks to our special consultant, Nina.”
Just then, Spencer handed Nina the keys to the old lab.
When he heard Grant mention her name, he stood up and said to Wilfred, “Mr. Sullivan, Nina is the outstanding graduate of our Department of Veterinary Medicine, I told you about before. She really is the pride of our university.”
Wilfred looked at Nina and gave her an approving nod. “Nina, I’ve already heard about everything you’ve accomplished. You and your brother actually managed to nab both the thief and the murderer at once. Impressive work!”
He continued in an earnest tone, “You’ve done the university a huge favor, and we’re going to make sure you’re properly rewarded. We’re giving you a 30 thousand dollars cash prize!!
If the murder case had dragged on, the university would’ve had to shell out way more than 30 thousand dollars just to keep the whole mess out of the headlines.
Nina really saved the school a ton of money this time.
Claire couldn’t help but snicker to herself when she heard about the 80 thousand dollar reward.
That kind of cash would barely cover one of her handbags.
Nina didn’t even look happy about the cash reward. Instead, she asked with real concern, “Thank you for the recognition, but how is the victim’s family doing now?
“It’s so sad. That girl should’ve had a bright future.”
Wilfred let out a heavy sigh, his face clouded with sorrow. “We’ve done everything in our power to comfort the family, but nothing we do can ever truly ease the pain of losing a daughter. All we can do is be there for them.
“The victim’s family is also really grateful to you and your team for acting so fast to track down the culprit.”

At that moment, Spencer smoothly shifted the topic. “By the way, Mr. Sullivan, aside from the cash prize, didn’t you say you’d let Nina use Lab Al? Did you bring the keys today?”
Wilfred’s face grew a little uncomfortable, and he said, “Uh… Actually, I assigned Lab Al to Claire this morning.”
He looked a bit embarrassed as he explained, “Claire came to me yesterday afternoon, saying she urgently needed Lab Al. Things felt pressing, so I just handed her the keys without giving it much thought.”
But actually, he thought giving a fancy lab to someone like Nina, who just ran a little animal park, was a complete waste of
resources.
Claire, on the other hand, had money, fame, and the FlashVax Vaccine about to go public.
Seriously, how could a small-time zookeeper ever compete with someone like Claire?
Spencer, who was always the picture of calm and grace, suddenly grew serious. His face clouded over, and his gaze sharpened.
He held back his frustration, but his words came out unwavering. “Mr. Sullivan, isn’t this a bit out of line?
“We gave our word to Nina first. How can we just break a promise like that?
“And besides, university resources should be shared fairly by everyone.”
Nina stood aside, watching as Spencer stood his ground for her, even though she’d already graduated, willing to go up against the university president just for her sake. Her heart was truly moved by that.
Wilfred was visibly uneasy around Spencer. Wiping the sweat from his brow, he tried to explain, “Claire is a first-year grad student here now.
“If she has to keep running back and forth between the university and the hospital lab for her experiments, it’s just a huge waste of time. That’s why I…”
Although Spencer was only the vice president, he was a real powerhouse. He handled pretty much everything around campus, from the big stuff to the nitty-gritty. He just hadn’t been around long enough to snag a higher title yet.
Wilfred hurried to add, “It’s not like Lab Al is the only option. We’ve got plenty of other labs available right now.
“Nina can just pick whichever one she likes. Personally, I think Lab B2 is actually pretty decent.”
“Lab B2’s facilities fall far short of what Lab Al offers.” Spencer’s gaze was like a laser, his voice steady and brooking no debate.
“Mr. Sullivan, you gave your word, and it’s not right to just backtrack on a promise. If you can’t stand by what you say, how do you expect anyone to trust you?” added Spencer.
Feeling increasingly flustered under Spencer’s intense gaze, Wilfred finally backpedaled, blurting out, “Alright, how about
this?
“Nina can pick any lab in the Department of Veterinary Medicine/that’s not already booked up!
“I’ll make sure she gets it rent-free. The university’s research fund will cover everything!”
Wilfred casually slid his laptop over to Nina, totally unfazed by the tense atmosphere.
The screen showed a list of open labs, laid out like some kind of tiered access chart, each slot making it crystal clear who was at the top.
Lab Al. Right there, Claire’s name was splashed across the assignment column, impossible to miss.
