Chapter 166

Chapter 166

Quentin got straight to the point. He said, “One of my important clients has a horse that hasn’t been himself lately. It doesn’t look like anything urgent, but nobody can pinpoint the issue.

“The client’s really anxious, since he’s bringing that Ahal-Teke horse here next month to compete in the International Horse Expo.”

Nina’s eyes went wide in shock, and she blurted out, “An Akhal-Teke horse!”

The Akhal-Teke was famous for its mystique.

These horses had skin so thin that one could actually see their veins. When they ran, their blood rushed so fast that their coats turned red, making them look like they were literally sweating blood.

A top-tier Akhal-Teke easily starts at over 16 million. It was like leading half a fortune around on a leash!

Nina’s curiosity was off the charts. She leaned in closer, practically bouncing with excitement. She asked, “Which country is the client from?”

Quentin couldn’t help but curve his lips into a smile as he looked at her-hair sticking up everywhere, eyes shining like a scrappy little sparrow who just won a fight. He replied, “Sahan.”

He paused on purpose, letting the suspense build. Then he added, “If this goes well, trust me—the reward won’t just be generous. We’re talking serious money here.”

Nina practically jumped out of her seat, her eyes wide with excitement. She exclaimed, “A loaded Sahan billionaire!”

She grabbed Quentin’s arm, her eyes shining like stars. She said, “Mr. Hayes, you’re totally my personal fortune god!”

Quentin, unable to resist her enthusiasm, gently pushed her shoulder. He said, “Easy, don’t get so close-your wild hair is practically poking me in the face.”

He put on a serious face and added, “Hold your horses. It’s a bit early to start celebrating.

“This client actually had a whole team of specialists from Summer Veterinary Group flown out to the Sahan before, but still, nobody could figure out what was wrong with the horse-pretty unfortunate./

“Now, for the International Horse Expo, Summer Veterinary Group is taking the lead, rallying the top vets nationwide for a massive group consult on the Akhal-Teke horse.”

When Nina heard “Summer Veterinary Group,” she froze for a beat, then everything made sense.

The Summer family was a big name in the animal healthcare world back home, and with all the hype their FlashVax Vaccine had stirred up internationally, it was no surprise they’d caught the eye of a client from Sahan.

Quentin changed the subject with a sly smile. He said, “My client also got his partners here in Eastland to quietly look around for some talented vets on the side.”

Nina’s eyes sparked with fighting spirit, her fists subconsciously clenching. She said, “If it comes down to a face-off, I’m going to show the Summer family who’s boss!

“This time, I’m taking back everything that’s mine!”

Quentin watched Nina’s wild cowlick-sticking up like she’d just had a wrestling match with a chicken-quiver with excitement. He couldn’t resist reaching out to gently flick that stubborn lock of hair.

He said, “Aiming high, aren’t you? But before you go off to conquer the world…”

He paused, then, with a smirk, plucked a white chicken feather out of her hair. He added, “Maybe handle your own mess first, yeah?”

Nina rubbed her nose in embarrassment. Standing on her tiptoes, she carefully pressed the last Band-Aid onto his face, then gave him a mischievous yet sweet smile.

She said. “Alright! Just promise you’ll hit me up when it all goes down, okay?”

Nina was already fired up, ready to snatch a fat piece of business right out from under the Summer family’s noses.

Just as they’d sealed their “partnership deal,” the Squirrel Bros stormed into the RV like a mini tornado.

Chubby snapped to attention, saluting with his tiny paw-though not exactly regulation style. He said, “Reporting in. Commander! The chicken coop case is cracked-we’ve found the mastermind!”

Coco, with a mock-serious air, fussed with his bowtie and said, “After inspecting the scene, it’s confirmed-the perp is Pearlie.

“He snuck in for a snack, picked the lock perfectly, but totally forgot to bolt the door afterwards!”

Chubby couldn’t wait to report the final scoop. “The culprit’s holed up in the tree hollow under the third big pine over in the forest section!

“Awaiting your command-should we swoop in and nab him now?”

Nina announced, “Let’s roll! Time to bag that mischievous rascal!”

She turned to Quentin, eyes sparkling with excitement as she invited him, “Wanna come with us? You can teach that little troublemaker a proper lesson-make sure it never forgets!”

Quentin looked at this gung-ho squad-Nina plus the Squirrel Bros-about to go on their silly mission. The words ‘Are you guys serious right now?’ hovered on the tip of his tongue.

But when he caught Nina’s expectant gaze, those words vanished, and almost without thinking, he nodded and said. “Lead the way.”

Quentin followed Nina toward the door, but just as he was about to step out, he caught a glimpse of Shadow shrinking in the corner, trying his hardest not to be noticed.

Shadow crept after them on soft, sneaky paws.

Quentin stopped, turned around, and gently tapped Shadow’s wet nose with his finger. He said, “You-back in the corner. Time to reflect on your crimes. And forget that extra snack tonight.”

Shadow let out a wounded “awoo,” his ears drooping in despair, but he still obediently trudged back to the wall, flopped down facing it, leaving only the saddest little silhouette behind.

Meanwhile, the Squirrel Bros expertly hopped onto their beloved scooter, leading the way ahead.

Nina held up her flashlight, its beam dancing through the night.

Quentin followed behind, eyeing this human-squirrel-scooter squad, thinking to himself, ‘Honestly, this is peak

childishness.

But despite his thoughts, a faint smile tugged at his lips, and a strange, soft feeling crept into his heart.

They soon arrived at a shadowy corner of the forest, spotting a familiar white ball huddled inside a beat-up delivery box.

Nina leaned in for a closer look and instantly broke out in a helpless laugh.

Pearlie was sitting proudly on top of four or five eggs, his tiny head bobbing as he did his darnedest to squeeze out something that sounded vaguely like a chicken cluck.

He even tried to imitate a mother hen, awkwardly scooting and wriggling around, doing his best to shelter every single egg under his fluffy little belly.

Quentin finally caught up, poked his head in for a look, and was absolutely stunned by what he saw.

By now, Nina, Quentin, and the Squirrel Bros had Pearlie completely boxed in.

Pearlic, caught mid-cluck in his chicken impersonation, snapped to attention and went stone still as soon as he heard all the noise.

Nina reached out, grabbed Pearlie by the scruff, and dangled the fuzzy little thief right in front of her face.

She said, “Hey, you sneaky little bandit, do you even realize just how much trouble you’ve stirred up?

“You snuck into the chicken coop and left the door wide open! Now your mischief is famous all across the whole animal park!”

Pearlie’s little paws tucked in midair, eyes darting all over the place-he couldn’t quite meet Nina’s gaze.

He stammered, “I-I only wanted to grab a couple of eggs.

“There were way too many chickens in there-I didn’t stand a chance against that crowd.

“I just figured I’d hatch a few chicks myself and, you know, have a tasty snack.”

Nina couldn’t help but crack up at Pearlie’s crazy scheme. She spun around and dumped Pearlie straight into Quentin’s

arms.

“Here you go, the culprit’s all yours! Your call-how should we punish this rascal?” she teased.
