Chapter 167

Before Quentin could react, Nina shoved a warm, fluffy little bundle into his arms.

Pearlie playfully rolled around in his arms, revealed its soft white belly, and put its tiny paws together in a pleading gesture, begging cutely for mercy.

He begged, “I promise I won’t do it again!

“You’re the coolest and the nicest, Quentin! Please forgive me just this once.”

However, even with the soft, fluffy bundle in his arms and those pitiful, pleading whimpers, Quentin’s expression didn’t waver in the slightest.

Expressionless, Quentin grabbed Pearlie by the scruff, his eyes dark and piercing. A cold, intimidating aura enveloped him, as if he froze the very air around him.

Pearlie went rigid, instantly realizing that acting cute only worked on Nina-never on this ice-cold boss.

Terrified, he started to shake, quickly covering his eyes with his little paws and muttering to himself, “If I can’t see him, maybe he can’t see me.”

Feeling Quentin’s icy cold grip on his scruff, Pearlie couldn’t hold back any longer,

He cried out, “Nina, Nina! Please save me!”

Seeing Quentin’s frosty, intimidating look when he faced the fluffy Pearlie, Nina felt a pang in her heart. She reached out and gently tugged his sleeve, saying softly, “Come on, it knows it messed up. Let’s just give it a pass this time, okay?”

Quentin glanced down at her, and before he knew it, found himself staring right into those bright eyes.

After a moment of silence, he gave Pearlie’s little butt two light taps. Though his tone was still all annoyance and sass, his touch was so gentle it barely counted as a scolding. He said, “Don’t let me catch you pulling this stunt again.”

With that, Quentin just stuffed Pearlie back into Nina’s arms,

Nina smiled as she took the still-traumatized Pearlie, gently booping its nose with her finger. She said, “You got off easy this time, but if you mess up again, you’re definitely going to bed hungry!”

Pearlie instantly buried its little head against Nina’s chest, too scared to make a single peep.

Quentin glanced at his watch and said, “I’ve got an overseas video conference coming up, so I’ll let you guys off the hook for today.”

Nina instantly played along, giving a playful salute and saying, “Yes, Mr. Hayes! I’ll make myself scarce now.”

As he watched Nina disappear into the night with the three little ones in tow, Quentin subconsciously reached up and brushed his fingers over the band-aid she’d stuck on his face, the faint touch still lingering on his skin.

When Quentin got back to the RV site, the cleaning crew he’d called before leaving had already wrapped things up with impressive efficiency.

The RV, which had been a madhouse just an hour ago, was now spotless-almost as if all that chaos had just been a wild dream.

Quentin stared at the couch for a moment, then pursed his lips, opened his laptop, and smoothly logged into the video conference system.

Just as the camera switched on, the unexpected unfolded.

On the other end of the call, every Hayes Group overseas executive was left speechless, eyes wide as saucers.

Quentin himself spotted his own face in the little conference window-and for a second, he was absolutely dumbfounded.

The band-aid Nina had stuck on his cheek turned out to be cartoon-themed.

Decorated in pink, pale yellow, and baby blue-it looked ridiculously cute.

It was covered in perfectly crisp puppy and kitten paw prints, oozing with cuteness.

This adorable band-aid was hilariously out of place against Quentin’s fierce, chiseled features.

The whole meeting room froze in an awkward hush, everyone desperately fighting to keep their expressions normal, but their eyes practically screamed pure disbelief and nosy curiosity.

Every employee’s eyes were bugging out.

They thought, ‘Only a girl would buy a Band-Aid this cute.

Quentin looked so grim that the whole atmosphere felt like it was freezing over. He kept his face completely blank and just told the division spokesperson to give the report.

The tension was palpable; everyone spent the meeting anxiously watching their steps, praying they wouldn’t mess up even

once.

Back in her room, Nina started sneezing one after another. She thought, ‘Geez, who’s gossiping about me right now?’

In the following days, the whole zoo was bursting with energy. Every staff member hustled nonstop, gearing up for the grand open day event.

Nina made a point to upgrade employee benefits. The cafeteria switched up the menu every day-never repeating a dish- so there was always something new and delicious to look forward to.

The day before the big open day, Nina herself dropped by the cafeteria at lunchtime. While people were eating, she personally handed every employee a fat cash bonus while they were still eating.

As Nina was having lunch in the cafeteria and half-watching the news, she suddenly heard the anchor on TV say, “The FlashVax Vaccine, which was supposed to roll out globally last week, got shut down by the authorities just one hour before launch.

“Because of this, Summer Group’s stock crashed as soon as the market opened, already down more than 15%,”

The report added that, since Summer Group had locked in a bunch of partnership orders, now they were getting bombarded with massive breach-of-contract claims from their distribution channels.

Nina was just handing the bonus to the new vet, Emily.

Emily looked like a whole new person-her dark circles were way/less noticeable, and her face was finally glowing with color.

As she watched the news on TV, her eyes grew misty. She turned to Nina and gave her a relieved, radiant smile.

Ever since Emily came clean to Nina about the truth behind the FlashVax Vaccine and helped her report it, she finally felt at peace. For the first time in ages, she could actually sleep soundly at night.

Hearing that the Summer family was finally getting what they deserved, Emily felt a deep sense of relief and satisfaction.

Nina softly told Emily, “You deserve some credit for making this happen.”

Emily shook her head, a peaceful, relieved look in her eyes. She said, “I was just doing what I should have done.”

Right at that moment, Nina’s phone buzzed. Caller ID showed it was the zoo’s security desk.

The guard on the line sounded uneasy as he reported, “Ms. Summer, there’s a black Mercedes at the front gate. The people inside say they’re your parents and want to pick you up-they keep insisting we let them through.”

Nina’s gaze hardened, ice-cold.
