Chapter 184 Please Cooperate
Nina’s heart clenched when she heard the news.
She remembered perfectly-the noon delivery of feed had come straight from Eloise’s agricultural base.
She didn’t believe for a second that Eloise would ever harm the zoo. But if someone in the shadows was really after her, who knew what kind of dirty tricks they’d pull?
Messing with the feed, maybe even poisoning it, wasn’t out of the question.
Nina shot to her feet. “Simon, I’m coming with you.”
She had to see for herself what was really happening.
When they rushed over to the feed warehouse, they found a blue truck ringed by police.
Luke was there with his squad, checking every single feed bag one by one, his face tight with tension.
The driver was off to the side, eyes wide in disbelief. “Officer, this truck comes straight from a government-backed farm! We always deliver through official channels-how could anything be wrong?”
Luke, Alex’s longtime partner, had a firm hand with investigations-just like Simon.
He paid no attention to the driver’s explanations, barking orders as his squad searched every inch of the cargo.
Meanwhile, Eloise, touring the zoo with her class, received an urgent call for help from the driver.
She hurried to the warehouse with her students, looking both puzzled and startled.
Eloise hurried over, her eyes darting between the cops and the truck. She turned to the driver, totally baffled. “What’s going on here?”
The driver looked like he was about to burst into tears. “Ms. Coleman, they think our truck has something to do with the fire at the zoo.”
“No way!” Eloise’s eyes widened, disbelief written all over her face as she shot a look at the cops. ‘How could this even be possible?’ she thought.
Before she could say more, an officer suddenly yelled, “Found something! There’s a discovery!”
Everyone’s attention snapped to the source of the commotion.
An officer, wearing white gloves, carefully pulled a plastic handle out from deep inside one of the feed bags.
With half a kite string still tightly coiled around it, the end sliced clean through by a sharp blade.
“Key evidence found! It’s the handle from a severed kite string!” the officer called out.
The driver’s eyes bulged, and he staggered back a couple of steps, voice trembling. “No way, that’s just not possible! We loaded every single bag ourselves! We double-checked everything.”
Eloise’s face went pale, and she gripped the edge of the truck by reflex, trying not to lose her balance.
Her mouth moved, but no sound came out. Behind her glasses, her eyes screamed with shock and bafflement.
‘How could something like this show up in a feed that supposedly cleared every quality check?’ Eloise thought, disbelief swirling in her mind.
Nina and Simon locked eyes, each seeing their own shock and suspicion mirrored in the other’s gaze.
eyes narrowed, sharp as a hawk. “This reeks of an inside job. My guess? The culprit panicked when the fire got out
of control and tried to stash their tool in a feed bag-hoping it’d never be found.”
Another cop pulled up the surveillance footage and announced, “Look here-the records show after the truck arrived, only the driver, Ms. Coleman, and her two students ever got near it.”
“An inside job?” Eloise and her students and colleagues were stunned and outraged by the accusation.
One of the students couldn’t hold back. “We came all the way here to deliver feed and work with the zoo! Why would we possibly do something like that?”
Eloise, who was always calm and polite, just about lost her cool.
She adjusted her glasses, her voice shaking with fury. “Accusations require evidence! Do you have any direct proof that we started the fire?”
Successfully unlocked!
Luke kept his cool, raising a hand to calm everyone slows, Tverysine, po take it easy.
“This is just a routine procedure. We need your statements to help clear you as quickly as possible.”

Nina stepped forward, her voice unwavering. “I trust Ms. Coleman! They have absolutely no motive for this.”
Luke raised his hand in a calming gesture, his voice steady. “Let’s not jump to conclusions.
“I know this is tough for everyone, but the fact remains-the key piece of evidence was found on this truck, and it’s our job to get to the bottom of it.”
He turned to Eloise, keeping his voice understanding yet serious. “Ms. Coleman, we’re not treating you as a suspect.
“But you and your team are the ones who know this shipment inside and out. We need your help figuring out how that kite handle got mixed up in the feed.
“The sooner you cooperate, the sooner we can clear your names.”
“But I have to meet with Ms. Summer this afternoon to talk about our partnership,” Eloise said, glancing anxiously at her watch. “And I’ve got a meeting in Juniper later tonight!”
Luke gave her an apologetic look, but his voice stayed firm. “Which is why we really need to push forward and get this sorted out as fast as possible.
“This truck’s now officially a crime scene, and until we’ve completed our preliminary investigation, everyone involved needs to stay right here.
“It’s standard procedure for a case like this. Thank you for understanding.”
Before Luke could finish, a steady voice cut through the standoff, shifting the mood in an instant.
“Hold up.” Simon, who’d been taking in everything from the sidelines, finally made his move. He strode forward, every step deliberate.
