Chapter 194 Going First

Karim glanced at Claire and Alex. He said coldly, “I’m giving you one last chance. If you can’t fix my horse, the Summer Group is off my list for good. Don’t even think about working with me ever again.”

With that, he motioned for Nina and Quentin to come along, and the three of them made their way to the Animal Wellness Center.

Alex froze, his face pale. He was devastated, like the ground had fallen away beneath him.

Claire held his hand tight. “Alex, we can do it. Dad’s reputation is in your hands now.”

She looked determined. “I promise I’ll save Karim’s horse.”

Alex slowly turned to Claire, staring at the girl he’d always looked out for. His voice was rough and strained. “Claire, I’ve been working overseas lately. I don’t know anything about what’s been happening back home.”

He paused, his gaze sharp and searching. “Do you know anything about Dad’s case?”

Alex sounded drained.

Getting someone to start a fire didn’t end up hurting anyone, so there was still some chance to turn things around. The person in charge might get three to ten years in prison.

However, if it was actually a hit job, that would be a major, serious crime.

Charles was Alex’s father. After this incident, the police would probably terminate his consulting contract as a specialist, and all his titles and honors would be gone.

He thought, ‘No, that’s impossible. How could Dad ever do something as horrible as hiring a killer?’

The moment Claire looked at Alex, she felt her lashes flutter for a brief second and then quickly dropped her gaze.

She shook her head. “I’ve been so caught up treating the Akhal-Teke that my head has been spinning. It’s gotta be Nina messing things up, or someone is setting Dad up.”

Claire couldn’t bring herself to meet Alex’s eyes again. She spun around and rushed off. “Alex, the meeting is about to start. I gotta go.”

Before she’d even finished, she grabbed her team and all but bolted.

Alex stood there, staring at Claire as she hurried away, a heavy fatigue suddenly washing over him.

He pressed his fingers to his brow, trying to relieve the tension.

On the way to the Animal Wellness Center, Quentin asked casually, “Do you know Westin, the vet the Summer Group hired?”

Nina nodded. “Yeah, he’s my senior in school. When I did my exchange at the Royal Veterinary College in my junior year, he was already working on his PhD. Everyone knew him.”

Quentin just nodded, his face unreadable.

Nina shot him a sly grin. “Do you think I can’t hold my own against him?”

Quentin kept walking, eyes straight ahead. “I don’t doubt people I hire.”

He was just worried about something else.

Claire had been standing for so long that her back started to ache again, and she fell a few steps behind the group.

When she saw Nina chatting with Quentin, she clenched her fists, muttering, “Nina, if you mess with the Summer family, I swear I’ll make you pay.”

As soon as Niną walked into the Animal Wellness Center, she was stunned by what she saw.

The spacious room was already swarming with teams, each one loaded up with pro-level vet equipment.

It was like the ultimate vet showdown. There were lab coat academics, tribal healers in their traditional outfits, and even a few old-timers who looked mysterious, medical kits in hand.

All for the Akhal-Teke, and especially for Karim, these partners had called in every skilled doctor from around the world.

As soon as Karim showed up, a few business partners hurried over, all with eager smiles.

“Mr. Karim, we heard your horse isn’t doing wel

Color Frongi falu é la vets from all over the globe.” Successfully unlocked!

Nina sidled up to Quentin, muttering under her breath, “I thought it would just be the Summer Group and us.”

Quentin scanned the crowd with a smirk. “Well, everyone wants a share of this.”

Karim swept his gaze over the crowd of vets, his voice booming. “Whoever can cure my Akhal-Teke, Silkcloud, will not only get all the treatment costs covered, but I’ll throw in an extra 3 million dollars.”

He paused, his tone even more emphatic. “And that person will be my special guest for life. He can call me whenever he

wants.”

3 million dollars was really a lot.

Nina’s eyes sparkled. She clenched her fists, pumped up. “I’m gonna get that money.”

Quentin turned to look at her, catching the eager spark in her eyes. A faint smile flickered across his face as he leaned in, whispering in her ear. “Go claim your prize.”

His voice was steady and full of encouragement.

Karim called out to the staff. “Bring out Silkcloud.”

Right on cue, a young guy in a lab coat walked in, leading a stunning white Akhal-Teke into the hall.

The horse’s coat shone with a soft sheen, and each step was smooth and strong, commanding attention without any effort.

It was Akhal-Teke, the legendary horse.

The young man led the magnificent Akhal-Teke right into the center of the hall, moving with effortless poise. He stopped before Karim and flashed a confident smile. “Mr. Karim, hello. I’m Westin Nichols.”

Karim’s eyes lit up with surprise. He strode forward and shook Westin’s hand warmly. “Hi, Mr. Nichols. We met at the Belavos Horse Racing. I never thought the Summer family would actually bring you here.”

Karim was deeply impressed by this young veterinary prodigy.

What stunned Karim was seeing his 50-million-dollar Akhal-Teke, Silkcloud, usually so proud and standoffish, nuzzling up to Westin’s shoulder and letting out a happy little whinny.

This horse, with its noble bloodline, was always unapproachable with strangers, but now it was acting like a gentle kid around Westin.

“This is unbelievable,” Karim couldn’t help but exclaim. “Silkcloud almost never gets this close to anyone. It’s famous for being so proud. Mr. Nichols, you really are as good as they say.”

Westin gently stroked Silkcloud’s neck, and the horse looked totally relaxed, even squinting his eyes in comfort.

“Silkcloud and I have a special connection.” He made it seem like earning the trust of this multi-million-dollar horse was just another day at the office for him.

By now, the hall was packed with vet teams from all over the world. When they saw Westin, the Summer Group’s star vet, already getting the jump on everyone, the crowd started murmuring.

“Damn, the Summer family gets to go first. Who knows how long we’ll be stuck waiting now?”

“Guess that 3 million dollars is as good as theirs already.”

“What else can we do? We’re nothing compared to Westin.”

Claire couldn’t hide the proud grin spreading across her face when she heard all the murmurs around her.
